backflow on black tank clean out

Took our first trip of the year this past weekend. When I connected to black tank flush, I discovered a leak coming from the backflow device located under the bathroom sink. The unit was properly winterized, but it appears to have a small hole in it. Contacted the dealer who refered me to Montana because the warranty ran out 2 weeks ago. Of course, their response was what I expected. Dealer wants $35.00 for the part. It looks easy enough to install. But, my question is: has anyone just bypassed this backflow preventer? I have a backflow device that hooks to your outside hose. It came with one of the tank flush kits that you install yourself. The tank flush on the unit never appeared to have very much pressure. Was wondering if bypassing would help. Suggestions or opinions?

Don't remove the backflow device - replace it. It's pretty easy to do and you can get one from an RV parts dealer for less than 10 bucks.

Call Keystone customer service. They promptly sent me a new vacuum breaker valve by UPS. Free.

It was installed incorrectly, causing a bind on the apparatus neck at the spring area and it snapped after 19 months. I have a 2007 3400RL.

Keystone/Montana customer service has always gone above and beyond for us.

Oh yeah... don't bypass that valve. E. coli is a nasty contamination.

Wife called Keystone yesterday. Said there was nothing they could do because warranty expired two weeks ago. Dealer wants $35.00 for the part, but is located 50 miles away. If I bypassed the device, I have a backflow preventer that connects to the input hose. It came with an aftermarket black tank clean out device that I installed on my last camper. I think it was called a tornado.

And when you disconnect the hose, what will prevent the backflow out of the Montana connector? It will siphon out because the original antisiphon valve is at a high point. Not a good thing. Best to replace it.
