B&W Companion for ^1/2 ft GMC Sierra
I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this:
I contacted an authorized B&W seller on the internet, Etrailer.com. I told them I was interested in purchasing a B&W Companion hitch. The woman asked my bed size and I told her 6 1/2 feet. She said there was no Companion for that.
But on the B&W site, I found this:
http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index....wYEBoCerTw_wcB
I called B&W and they told me I could use the Puck system, which is what my GMC 2017 Sierra 3500 truck will apparently come prepped for. They also told me I had an option of mounting the hitch directly over the axle or two inches behind it.
I'm wondering if anyone is towing with the Companion on a 6 1/2 foot bed and how they found it to be for turning and for the ride?

I have the B&W Companion on a turnover ball mount in my short box Ford. I love it and have no clearance issues at all.

I have the B & W Companion Hitch with the Puck System on a 6 1/2 ft bed and have had not problems. It is tight on 90 deg turns but have not hit. The Puck system works really well. I ordered my B&W Hitch on Amazon. The lower section that works with the puck system was only $400. I have Amazon Prime so the shipping was free. Very happy with the B&W Hitch. When you start towing with this hitch double check that the hitch is locked into place. Make sure you to the tug test.

Thanks. Did you place it over the axle or the two inches further back?

Just had a B&W Companion Hitch on a turn over ball system installed in our new truck ( 6 1/2 ft bed ). Works great and doesn't clunk ( while stopping and taking off ) like the old Reese hitch did

I am not a do-it-yourself guy, but this video almost makes it seem like a simple process if you have the GMC fifth wheel prep:

I installed a B&W companion in my Ford puck system. It is too easy. I bought it online and it arrived three days later. Two boxes - the base unit that drops into the pucks and the hitch portion which sits on the base. You do have to install the arms but it is a simple matter of nuts and bolts (included). I set it up so the hitch is over the axle and not 2" back option (but I do have a long bed).
It is a great hitch - go for it!

I think you also need to ask what length pin box they have on their trailer. There are two that are available. While the hitch placement behind the axle is available, I question the weight shift off the front axle.
My B&W Companion has the ability to be mounted in different positions, but all I have read is that when hooked up, the front axle weight needs to stay the same or be up to 200lbs heavier. I am about 2 inches in front of the rear axle and I gain about 50lbs on the front axle when hooked up.
On a decent road you can forget the trailer is back there. You will love the B&W hitch.

B & W Companion hitch with the turn over ball system in my short bed F250. Never a problem, same hitch in my last 2 F250 trucks.

Everyone I know who has a B&W hitch is madly in live with it. I plan to get order a new 2017 F350 short bed with the 'pucks' in January. The next day I will order my new B&W hitch for the truck. No doubt about it!

I just saw an ad in the latest TRAILER LIFE for B&W sliders for the puck system of the big three. I also contacted B&W about two months ago about sliders for pucks and was told they were "in development" and should be available shortly.
That being said, I did just have a B&W Companion (non-slider) single point attached to the Turnover Ball installed in my new 2016 F350 short bed. It appears I should have no clearance issues unless I get crazy.

The Companion works well. I suppose if I had to jackknife turn it might be an issue but I don't foresee issues. The quality of the unit is outstanding; all the edges are very smooth it functions very quietly. I'm impressed!
