Trailer King Tire Warning

Here is what my Trailer King tire looked liked before I removed all of them and replaced with 5 ST 235/85/16 Gladiator QR35-TR 14 ply G-Rated tires. There were actually two bulges, one on the inside of the tire as in the picture and one on the outside. The tires had about 12k miles and always properly inflated.

I heeded all of the warnings on this site and from the dealer and got these changed in the nick of time. If you have not changed yours please do so ASAP for all concerned.

Our Monte came with the Trailer Kings also and I told the dealer would not accept them because they were a safety hazard. He kind of looked at me weird and so I explained the situations that the series of "Chinabombs" that the manufactures were using on not just the Montes but a lot of the other brands too. He cut me a deal for G614's and has ordered his further units now with them.

I had a Mission tire (remember them? They are out of business now) that had a bulge similar to that, but the bubble was about in the middle of the sidewall, not near the rim like what's in that picture.

Since Mission was a Chinese tire brand (per the DOT tire code on the sidewall) and they are no longer in business, I just wonder if they changed their name to hide their identity. I use Maxxis now and treat my tires way better since I've learned so much from this forum. Of course, many in this forum will just say they tried to preach not using ST tires of any kind, but I'm liking my Maxxis just fine.

Fortunate you caught it in time. Others don't. One of my Marathons had a bubble similar to that, but about the size of a baseball and in the middle of the sidewall. When I went to the tire dealer, he said it looked like a broken steel belt inside. I got some good credit toward the G614's I now run on.

I also refused delivery of our 2015 with trailer king tires. Keystone and other manufacturers should be ashamed using them on the heavier trailers. Many options out there for much better LT tires, short of G614s.

Question: Why, after investing what we have in our Monty's, would we try to scrimp on the tires? I previously purchased brands other than the G614's basically because they were what the dealer had, and I did not know about this forum which has a wealth of knowledge based on experiences with "Chinabombs", weight issues, road hazards, etc. all of which lead to blowouts. The more I read, the more I'm learning, and I've pulled trailers of all kinds for many, many years.
Just askin? as food for thought.

Evolution: Missions, Marathons, Trailer Kings. Different names, same quality.

I've been a member here since 2004. Tires have been the main topic for all the time since I've been a member. Run ST tires at your own risk. If you run them long enough they will get you. You can keep the properly inflated, not run over 65, never hit anything on the road and they will get you.

This is exactly right. I thought if I did everything just right, no way it would happen to ME. Fool me once.......

Haven't been a member that long, but still agree with you. The other thing is how so few people check their tires age and change them out after 5 - 6 years, no matter what the mileage is.

To answer your question chipf2, most folks don't belong to the moc or any other forum where the chinese tire topic is educationaly discussed. Then there is also the very light fifth wheels that can run them, folks that only use the rv but a couple of weeks per year, some that can't afford better tires, and those that refuse to believe even if they were told of the probability of issues...or if they know are hoping to get by till they can change them out after 4 years. And then there are those like a friend of mine (RIP) who replaced his Chinese Mission tires with Goodyear Marathon assuming they were US made since they were Goodyear. Wrong. No blowouts on his Missions, 2 on his Chinese Marathons.

Ed(kozzy), Don't gamble on those tires that came on your new unit. They are a bomb just waiting to explode and the damage it can cause is a whole lot more money than the cost of buying those G614's. Go to the Search engine here at the top of the page and check out tire blowouts or other such subjects concerning tires and see what the damage can look like and the cost of the repairs.
