Update...w/picture - Ooops!!!! A new experience -

Well... it had to happen sooner or later. We stopped at a red light that just turned from yellow to red and the truck behind us did not!!! The end of our trailer is now blue and white with Montana logos!!! Oh, and some other rips and tears! Mostly on the end cap and the lower panel on the sides under the long window on side.

There seems to be NO damage on inside. Bob said the truck pushed and went down to the bumper.

If you want to see pictures they are on my Facebook profile. Our truck does not seemed damaged (trailer hit from behind). We just scooted up a bit from where we were stopped when the truck hit trailer!

Cannot say the same of the (older Chevy) truck that hit the trailer... the hood of the truck looks like a "winter/snow" A-frame house with steep roof line!!! The driver was not hurt (or at least she did not want to go to the hospital). PS.... it was her friends truck!

This happened in Niceville, Florida and we were on our way to Bay Minette, Alabama. We were still able to drive the trailer and came on over here to wait for instructions. They are supposed to come today and look at it! Stay tuned for more info!!!

So... now we are playing the waiting game! We will see how well the insurance we got last summer with Good Sam will be.

*****
We can take to RV repair in Theodore, Alabama next week and they can have a look see & set up repairs from there! This a recommended place that many motorhomes go to for body repair! So.... looks like the beginning... to the end soon!!! Yay! Thank you everyone for your assistance and thoughts!

update 2 - picture on scene at accident 11-10-10

Why would it make any difference how good your insurance is??? Seems like the other vehicles fault, therefore the other vehicles insurance should cover it???

Great that You and Bob are okay; now to find a good repair shop to complete the repair. Accidents always create the waiting game. Hope your insurance gives you the go- ahead to "Get r Done".

When they are estimating damages, I would have them open up the underside of the hitch area to make sure there is no bending or cracking of the frame where the pin box attaches to the frame. And also the hitch and mounting rails in your truck. Those two points would have been subjected to some of the forces from the impact as the trailer pushed against your truck. If it "scooted" you up a bit, it must have been a pretty good impact with subsequent forces on your hitch/truck.

Make sure they add the price of a VERY GOOD HOTEL ON THE BEACH for you while Monty is in the shop.
Sure glad you and Bob are not hurt. Don`t forget, Quartzsite in coming up fast.

Unfortunately, things like that happen sometimes. Glad everyone is OK. Wish you the best in getting things repaired.

Glad to hear you're ok, and I think BB TX gave an excellent suggestion.

Agree with the others about it being the other guy's insurance that has to pay, and the checking within the belly for further damage as well as the hitch, and making sure they cover your hotel room and at least part of the meals. After all, you'd not have the extra expense of that many meals out, otherwise.

Good luck to you and Bob getting this fixed quickly and to your satisfaction.

We had someone run into the back of our vehicle while we were stopped at a red light...no damage, but when getting insurance rates a couple of years later, we were told the "accident" still appeared on our record! Those insurance companies do not miss a trick. In your case, glad to hear that you were not injured...hope you get repairs completed with a minimum of stress.

You might also be sure your slide outs operate and seal well. If not, be sure they include this in the claim.

I can sense Mynabird's concern regarding their insurance. You have the driver using someone else's vehicle. Insurance may be a concern because the truck might not be insured or the driver either. In some places and events this could get ugly.

Keep us posted on this and best of luck on a positive and speedy resolution!

Glad you were not hurt, a lot easier to fix the Monty than you. If you have collision insurance, you have coverage for accidents with uninsured motorist. Hopefully the truck driver or owner has insurance.

If I am right here, if this happened in Michigan it does not matter who's fault it is. We have no fault insurance in MI and your own insurance takes care of it. But, I also believe that the two insurance companies work it out between themselves. Not a bad situatation really, at least you don't get in the middle and your vehicle gets repaired.

Champ 49 is right, in states with "No Fault" each person's insurance pays for that person's damage. I don't think that Florida (where the accident took place) is a no fault state though. For what it's worth, Good Sam uses MIC for their insurance and I have had good luck dealing with them. The only fly in the ointment you may encounter is if the other vehicle wasn't insured, or if it was being operated by someone who wasn't authorized to use it. Don't be surprised, but in this economy, lots of drivers get insurance long enough to get their license plates and then cancel it. In this event, your uninsured coverage should take care of you.

Anyway, the fact that you weren't hurt is the main concern. Hope all goes well in getting it repaired. Be prepared for a wait though. Replacing the end cap will take a while because it will take a time for the factory to make one for your year, and also time to ship it to your repair facility.

Hope you get everything squared away so that we see you at Q this coming January.

Myna, glad to hear you and Bob are OK from this little incident. Nothing boring about RVing! Keep us abreast of what comes of this little adventure! It could become real ugly if Florida is a "No Fault" State! Hope all is well with you and Bob and you get a good report from the RV dealer inspecting the Monte!

Hope you get a copy of the accident report from the police dept., involved with all the info on the other person involved. I have a printed form in my tow vehicle which has all the info to get from the other person or from the police officer. It saves a lot of time when dealing with insurance companies. Good Luck.
