Boondocking w/ Extreme View

We are on a journey North to Moab, Utah to volunteer camp host at Arches National Park, and decided to stop at one of our old favorite boondocking sites, Goosenecks SP near Mexican Hat, UT.

Thought you might get a kick out of the meaning of "Extreme View".

And yes, I am talking about the beautiful DW, of course!

The ladder is NOT for the faint-of-heart!

Adjusting the solar panels can be a chore.

We would be happy to answer any questions anyone might have about this beautiful area. Sorry, no hook-ups, no fees, no shuffle board.

Great photos Robbie. We have been past Mexican Hat many times and have not been to Gooseneck SP. After seeing your pics we will certainly go there soon. JB

Say hello to Howard & Lynda for us. I assume you are going to Arches to work with them as Camp Hosts? Nice area and I am sure you will enjoy the assignment.

When I am up high and look down I get this weird sensation that I cannot (will not) explain.

Very, very nice pictures. Thank you for taking them for me.

Wow, that is a beautiful setup Robbie.

How do you know about places like that, where you just pull up and boondock? I love your solar panel installation. What is your battery and inverter setup? When we retire we want to be serious boondockers too. While I know what I have to do in the energy department I'm not so sure about how to know where you can park and where you cannot.

Jim,

Good question. I wish there was a simple answer. We tend to keep an open ear, scout BLM and National Forest Service (NFS) lands and maps. We are not afraid to drop the trailer and go look, first. Many times, we'll stay in a park nearby and look for opportunities.

The web also helps, but most people who have their favorite spots, just don't want every one else there! We are very please to be able to share Goosenecks with the MOC.

You can find lots of information by using google. In fact, we have used google earth, to look at possible campspots, using our inverter and Wi-Fi'ing to the trailer and getting broadband service while driving down the road, sure helps....isn't technology something?

The simplest answer I can give you, is do your research. That includes maps, weather, know your capacities, length of stay, and learn to educate yourselves to what you need and don't need. Like I said in another post, some people have to have 50 amp power! Make sure your partner is with you on this lifestyle. It isn't always easy, but we make our own rewards.

Our setup for the solar is not cheap, and if you're not really into boondocking, I don't recommend it. You can get away with a good "portable" generator and save lots of bucks.

Then later, if you think this is a lifestyle you would like, purchase the solar system. We had our system installed by AMSOLAR. They know their stuff, and will be lifelong friends for the type of service we received from Greg and Deb Holder. Read their education page...a wealth of information.

We still carry the portable generator, and used about 5 gallons of gas since last October.

Wayne, this one is for you……….wish the scooter wasn’t in the way, but no one volunteered to help get it off the trailer!

We would be happy to help any MOC members by answering your questions from our experiences. That's what this forum is about!

hahahahaha - Dory would NEVER sleep with that view out the window. I would have to tie her to the truck before she would even get out to look! Too cool

No backup cam.....my honey tells me when to stop while backing up.

We had a choice between staying in the RV Park in Mexican Hat, UT for $18 a night, that only had 30 amp power and no sewer hookup and no shuffle-board, puzzle room or horseshoes
