what rear end ratios are you pulling with

I'm looking (half heartedy) into a new TV. I love my 7.3 and it pulls great 4.10 but since it is my every day driver I'm thinking about a 3.73 or something in this range. Still enough gear to pull but also some extra gear to push the mileage.
Any suggestions?
Also I was just told this weekend that my buddy just hired into a teaching job so he wants to tear the 7.3 down and go completely thru it. I only have to pay for the parts, no labor charges but it could be tide up of 6 to 8 weeks. Now the decisions.

Thanks for the replies I'm already looking forward to them.
Chuck

PS yes while it's torn down they can do anything that I want as long as I buy the parts. There goes the mileage!

I pull With The 4.10, But I think the 3.73 would do just fine and give you a little better MPG.

I pull with the 4:10, for my usage I wouldnt want anything else, I fulltime and pull in lots of mountains. if you pull mostly in level country 3.73 would be ok, and i'm sure lots of people pull in mountains with the 3.73, but for me I like the 4:10

I have the 05 6.0 Turbo Diesel with the 4:30 tow boss package. I feel comfortable towing anyplace, anytime, anything. It's not really broken in yet, 13,500 miles and I am getting 11.5mpg.

F-350 dually automatic 7.3 Powerstrokes with 4.10 pulling my 3670 RL loaded up. Absolutely 4.10 rear end. I pull in the mountains of north Georgia. If you will be flatlanding it and it is a daily driver the 3.73 will be fine. The answer it all depends.

My old Dodge 5.7 has 3.73 gets 21.0 on the road light consistantly. Lowest towing was in a 30-40 MPH head wind @ 10.5. Between 12 and 14 with tail wind and speed average of 65. I will go higher geared again because I like not having to stop for fuel as often.

We went with the 4:10's, primarily because it gave us an extra 2000lbs. of towing capacity. We didn't want to buy another truck when we went with a bigger 5er in the future.

I pull with the 3.73 and have no problems. My Monty is the lightest one Keystone makes. If I was pulling in the mountains a lot I would consider the 4.10

I have a 2005 Ford PSD 6.0 with 4:10 gears. I have 9,000 on the odometer. Runs Great and I now get 15 mpg (mixed driving).

373 here. When not towing it's my daily driver so wouldn't consider lower gearing. Have to agree though that if you were pulling mountains a lot and full timing the 410 would probably be better.

With a diesel, 3.73 should be fine... anywhere in the country. Also, no choice with GM, all diesels are 3.73, you can get 4.10 with the 8.1L V8.

I pull with a 3.73 but also chipped the 7.3PSD for an extra 80 HP & 150# torque. Made a world of difference, a big boost to mileage and power.

I have a 4.10 but would not hesitate to take a 4.30 if I was seriously looking for a truck and one was available. Generally speaking, the overdrive feature of the truck would even out the fuel mileage. I believe Richfaa has some data on his.

4:10's with my 8.1L and love it. I have read that going to 3:73 wouldn't make much differnece in the mileage but I never bought the truck for good mileage anyway. Of course if I could keep my foot out of it that would probably make the biggest difference, but that would be no fun....

I have a 99 Dodge Cummings with a 3.73. Wished I had the 4.1 a couple of times in the "hills". Only really wanted it 1% of the time, but when you want it, you really want it. There are some routes/highway inclines I avoid because I don't have the 4.1. For example, with an exhaust brake and tranny lock in second gear, I'll go down "The Grapevine" (Tejon Pass on I-5 in S. Calif), but not up it.
