Exhaust Brake & Tow/Haul Mode????

I would by-pass the exhaust brake. I had the complete Banks package on previous Ford 7.3L and it was very much needed and functioned very good. However, with the variable vane turbo and the exhaust brake I would not install the exhaust brake as the back pressure will not sync well with the changes in the vanes on the newer turbos. I have nothing added on my current 6.0L Ford and have really on considered a cat back exhaust; nothing else. I believe the cost of the Banks complete system and what you gain is grossly over-rated. Keep in mind, that more power created by the performance chip burns more fuel. I never really got major fuel mileage gains on the old truck with the Banks; maybe 1 or 2 MPG tops.

My last TV was a F-250 diesel, 6-speed manual. I had the exhaust brake installed anticipating a lot of driving in the Rockies. I am very glad I did. I have crossed the Rockies over 1/2 dozen times in the past 4 years. The exhaust brake worked well enough that when I had the 100,000 mile service done, the brakes on the TV looked like they were just barely broken in.

The F-350 I have now is an automatic with tow/haul. I plan to have an exhaust brake installed as soon as my budget allows. I often tow utility trailers, and a boat trailer while the Montana is parked. The exhaust brake is part of my driving technique.
