Watching the commodities market is a real thrill or you can just beat yourself with chains the result will be the same.A barrel of oil will no doubt hit 70.00 today(69.25 now) maybe higher. A gal of Gas is trading at 2.02 right now.Do a little math to see where the price of fuel is going.The average Federal and State tax on a Gal of Gas/Diesel is .62 so that would be 2.64 per gal of gas EXCLUDING transportation and profit margin along the way. Here now it is Gas 2.599/2.799 Diesel 2.799/ 3.019....Excuse me I dropped my chain.

FWIW, we just returned from a three week trip form Denver to Tucson to the texas hill country around Austin, to Dallas, and home, and paid $2.69/$2.79 a gallon for diesel fuel. Typically slightly higher than unleaded at the same stations. Highest I ever saw it was two years ago outside Death Valley CA. $3.69!!!!! We just bought enough to get us out of the area.

When Phyllis and I decided to get rid of the house and live in the Apartment (Monty)we decided that we would commit to whatever it took to stay with the life we had chosen.  I thought some time ago, with the first Iraqi incursion and then this latest debacle that we would would be paying through the nose eventually to fuel our full time life style.  I have kept track of costs, etc compared to the stick house. We are currently at 42% and dropping, because summer is coming. With my 2 reirements, My SS income, Phyllis' SS income and her retirment in two yers I think we will be fine. We plan to trip and stop for 3-5 weeks at a time and make day trips, ovenights, etc in an area.  To my way of thinking we can do this for as long as we want, or unitl illness overtakes us and we have to give it up. In that case we will get a small apartment and live out our lives in peace and take what God gives us, just like we do now. As long as we have each other we don't require a l ot of anything else. Just my 2 cents worth, or not....

We still plan to be "on the road" 5 to 6 months a year or maybe more including wintering where the warm wind blows. What the high cost of energy and all that it effects does is to draw in our circle of were and how far we can travel. With both of our Federal retirements and some good financial planning over the years we are in fair shape but we still have spending limits and high energy cost put a strain on the limits. We have been planning for this for many years and we will not be deterred. As my Dad always said..Money is no good if you can't spend it. I remember once I wanted a certain car but was hesitate to spend the money.My Dad said..do you have the money..Yes said I..Do you want the car..yes I said..Then buy the Damm thing and enjoy it.. said he...Good old Dad.

Good thinking on your Dad's part. I remember when I wanted my first bicycle. My dad took me to a junk yard and said there it is, go find it. I picked parts for the best part of a day. I said ok Dad, will you build me a bike now? He said, you picked the parts, you buid the bike. Somehow, he was always, just ther, with a little hint, showing me how to hold a wrench, how to adjust something. Always just there. Dad instilled in me a love for mechanics that is still there. I also learned that if i wanted it, and could afford it, I could get it. As long as it didin't take from family, hurt friends or harm another person, it was ok to buy it. I feel that this lifestyle is something like that, as long as I can do it and as long as I can take care of my Angel, then we'll do it, with joy and a sense of adventure.

well oil is trading for $70.50 and gas at 2.05 per gal.... Diesel was 2.999 at speedway this morning//have a nice day.....

And I thought we had one of the highest prices.
Gas is at 2.799 reg Diesel is at 2.779
Big Red needs about 180 galons to fill her up, guess I will need save a while longer.

Last year the west coast had the highest prices. We were paying about $3.15 per gallon for diesel. This year we are about the same as all of you who are complaining. We paid $2.75 for diesel last night. Regular is about $2.69. We have the highest prices in Oregon. They say it is still going up but will not reach our high of last summer. I think we better get used to it.

We were in California last March and everything is much higher in California. The same folks we visited in Calif were here later in the year and could not believe the difference in all the prices. They said it was like being on a different planet. Could be..Could be....

This morning in Whitby Ontario Gas $1.03 Cdn a Litre and Diesel 94.9 a litre. This makes ours probably the most expensive in North America. Diana

The commodities market is a very risky business.We can hope that the market is way over valued (i think it is ) The next few days could be very interesting.

Noticed Illinois was awfully proud of the fuel there, as are rural points in Ohio so far... We did see one place along the interstate (I-70) where diesel was only 2.48...... this just after we had pd 2.56.
It was 2.70 ish in Ill, and is about the same here in Ohio where we are.

Diesel Fuel $2.89+ here in little ole Allyn by Sea in Washington today. Propane $2.21 gal+tax.And the Beat goes on, and on, and.........

Makes no sense.paid 2.999 for diesel yesterday and 2.899 today same station. I run through three counties and several cities on my morning bus run and pass 20 maybe 25 gas stations out and back.This Am there was as much as a .35 difference in prices among those stations. I noted on my fuel log that fuel has increased EVERY day for the last 5 working days. It is good that my little Honda Civic does 33 normal driving and 36/38 on the interstate..BUT it won't pull the 3400.

Maybe Willie Nelson (and his politicos like Kinky Friedman)have figured out how to drive up the prices to get folks to switch over to bio-diesel ??
