looking to buy 2008 F 350 diesel

I am considering the purchase of a 2008 F-350 diesel. I currently am towing my 5th wheeler with a 2005 F-350 diesel with the 3.73 gears.
The 2008 models that I have looked at all have 3.55 gears (new gear for these rigs) I would like some input and opinions on wheather it is an important consideration between these 2 ratios. I can't seem to find any specs from Ford or manuals on the 3.55 to help me make a better decision.
The Ford dealer told me that the increased horse power and torque would make up for the higher ratio. He is confident that I would see better gas mileage with the 3.55 and still have plenty of pulling power.
Thanks for all your thoughts,

Hummm. Try this the Ford Build your own truck site.......http://www50.forddirect.fordvehicles...l=&statetoken=

I see the 4:10 and 3:73 diff being offered. I have the 4:10ls Diff and to tell the truth I would have gone with the 3:73's if I could have found one. We are just short of 10K miles and will do 10/12 mpg towing the 3400 and 15/18 solo both depending on conditions.. The truck full fuel, 2 folks ready to tow weighs in at 9212lbs. The Cummings will get the best MPG..by far..the durimax is about the same as the Ford , so folks who I have met that have the Durimax tell me. I would agree that you will still have plenty of pulling power with the 3:55's .If I was purchasing one now I would probably go that route the price of fuel being what it is. This 6.4L has plenty of pull power.

Hey Bruce, I run 3.73's with my 6.7l Dodge and my mileage rus 10.5/12.5-15.5 tow/solo. The biggest factor i guess is where you will do most of your towing as there dosen't seem to be a lot of difference soloing around town(from friends that have the 4.10s). Steve

By the way, The new 6.7lDodge is way down the mileage list just as Ford and Chevy. Hard to go from a 5.9 displacement to a 6.7 and not expect a little hit on the mileage. Steve
