50 amp electrical cord
On my last camping trip my 40’ electric cord went bad. Camping World was right next door, so I bought a 25’ and a 15, extension. (that’s all they had) Now I’ve got the plugin for the two cords laying in the grass. I’m wondering if this is safe. Are these connections water tight? We did go through a rain storm that weekend with no adverse effect. Just curious what others have done to make this safer. Thanks in advance.

No they are not water tight. If I am using an extension on my power cord, I always elevate it on wood planks placed under the montana out of reach for water.

Concur with jcurtis934 regarding elevate and cover if possible. Additionally, I seal and wrap the connectors with electrical tape.

The connections are defiantly not sealed by any means. However, A lot of us use a 50 t0 30 dog bone (when needed) when hooking up. The connection is exposed the all weather conditions. I have never had an issue and do not worry about that. Of course I'm not out there plying with it either. Its no different than the Christmas lights some put up at holiday time. Non of that is sealed either.

I've used dogbones from 50 to 30 and even to 20/15 in all kinds of weather without any problem for over thirty years. Obviously you shouldn't leave any unsealed connection laying where water could puddle and short it out, BUT all you've got to do is elevate it (a short piece of 2x4?) a bit and it will be fine. I try to run my cords and connections underneath slideouts or whatever as well.

While I am not a fan of extending the RV power cord if I had to I probably tape the ends of a large storage plastic bag over the connection in bad weather.

The hookup to our EMS is out in the weather and has never been a problem in 8 years of full timing. I do put wood blocks under it if it's lying on the ground just in case of puddles.

I am with the don't over think it group. I would not let it lay on the ground where it might be in a puddle. But off the ground where it might just get rain water on it I don't think would be a problem.
