Unsurpassed customer service.
I have had my B&W turnover Ball and Companion Hitch for just over 5 years. I noticed what appeared to be a crack in the weld on the Companion Hitch. It was underneath and may have gone unnoticed indefinitely. I did notice it and called B&W tech department and talked to John Taylor. He had me send pictures. I complied. Now he is sending me an entire new base, new post and everything I need except the top portion of the hitch. My instructions are to box up the old base and send it to them for their study. They pay shipping both ways. THAT is what I call unsurpassed customer service.

Glad they did right by you! Good to know there's another company out there treating the customers right.

Stiles, Could you post the pictures? I have the same hitch and would like to see where the crack is.

Great to here about B&W backing what they sell expecially when it has something to do with safety. Way to go B&W

Maximo, sorry I am really pressed for time right now. Messing with pictures takes time for me. The hair line cracks are on the bottom of the base where the cross member is welded to the flanges. This morning I discovered that there is a hair line crack on the other side too. Both are at the rear of the base, the opposite member from the U-bolts that wrap around the post. My only clue to the crack is a thin line of rust that showed up. So look on the bottom. There are only 4 welds to inspect, two on the front member and two on the back.

Was considering a change in hitches also, but customer service is one thing cracked welds is another. This is not the first time that I have read about problems with B & W hitches. The mere fact of cracked welds with such a vital component would concern me about the quality of the product. I have read many threads on hitches, and which would you chose, and B & W always comes up as a quality hitch, yet I don't recall ever reading about failed welds or any serious problems for that matter with other hitches, Reese, Husky etc.
On edit : To Stiles, would you consider this a serious issue if this cracked weld went unnoticed ?

I am not sure that it is a failed weld. That is only my suspicion. They want to study my returned hitch to see if it really is failed and determine if there is something that needs addressing. I would have no hesitation in buying another if I needed one.

We just had the same hitch installed last week. We will certainly add those welds to the periodic inspection check list. Thanks for the heads up and the info.
