Ready fo a new tow vehicle

Ready to get our 3rd tow vehicle (current one is 10 years old). Going all the way this time with the full 4 doors. Narrowed it down to the Ford F350 dually and the Ram 3500 dually. What's your thoughts? Any input is welcome.

Chevy! Stiffer frame and you can't beat the Duramax/Alison combo.

I am sure you would be happy with any of the new Big Three. As mentioned the Alison is a great transmission. However the new Dodge tranny is also supposed to be more durable. The Cummings engine has been a standard in the Dodge for many years and is hard to beat for durability.

I have a Dodge 2012 350 DRW/LB and love it, the exhaust brake is superb, not happy with the fuel economy, but I think that is not great on any of them. Good luck with your decision

This thread should be removed, since it is being posted to as well.

Seen them both and like them both. For us we cut a better deal with Ford and went that route. We have been very happy with the decision and did add the Air Lift Ultimate Air Bags and Wireless Air. The 6.7 Powerstroke is very strong and quiet and without towing I am usually in the 20MPG range on the on-board computer. My dad in law went the Dodge route and he loves it as well. Both great choices and of course there are the Chevy fans too.

If I were fortunate enough to buy a new truck now and was choosing between Ford and Dodge, I would also go with the best deal on equally appointed trucks. I'm sure you have your reasons for not including Chevy/GMC in your selection just as I do, but MANY people love them for THEIR reasons.

When somebody comes up with a Cummins/Allison combo in a pick up, the others will be out of business. Check out the motor home industry.

Well.. If I were to buy a new truck today, which I am not, I would go for the Dodge. Dodge has come a long way in the last few years. The Cummins motor IMO is the best out there. Unfortunately for years it was in a Dodge truck. Not so anymore.
We live in Ford Country and get our Fords on the Ford Friends and family plan. That is a huge savings which is why we have had two Fords.

We are partial to Ford and as a previous owner of 1800 shares of GM stock zero'd out, any GM product is a non-starter for us. All three manufacturers build great diesel trucks.

We are glad that we are not brand loyal that leaves many more options open to us. We purchase what best serves our needs at the time. We save huge $$ by using the Ford Friends and family plan I get a PIN number every year so we have had two Fords. Not my first choice but budget wise much like the Montana. Not our first choice but the best for the $$$.

Every body thinks they bought the best truck and if they checked them all out they did buy the best truck for them. All have their good points. The Dmax Allison is a proven combination. The Cummings is the only mid duty engine in the bunch hooked to their new transmission a great combo. Ford's new engine is the only one with a compacted graphite iron block. Audi just won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a compacted graphite iron engine for the 12 th time in 15 years. Kenworth uses a compacted graphite iron engine in their 7000 series trucks, and their transmission is the only one that will handle 1400 pound feet of TK.
The only way for you to know which truck is the best is to put your butt on the seat of all three several times, not just once. Then you will know which is the best truck,,, for you. This is a $50,000 investment get what you wont. What I like doesn't matter. I like 600 horse power. I would have a 1000 horse power if I could get it in a dependable truck. I would bet you could care less about that.

I am admittedly brand-loyal to Chevrolet. 3 Silverados ('00 3/4 ton gas, '04 2500HD D/A, and sig) and 2 muscle cars ('70 Nova SS 396, '86 Camaro IROC Z28). However, that said, I am loving the new Dodge! The dually is gorgeous, the new transmission is supposed to be much-improved and, come on, it still has the Cummins. If I were in the market, I'd be looking seriously at the Dodge.
