New unwanted repair project

Last fall I removed some old insulation from the basement ceiling and discovered that I could see light coming through the rim joist under my front door. After further investigation I found that the previous owners had removed the concrete cap from the front stoop. after they did that they troweled cement onto the remaining rubble in the stoop. This set up a situation where any and all water that fell on the wooden deck they installed over the stoop to flow back and sit directly against the rim joist and resulting in the joist rotting out and providing access and a home for mice, and carpenter ants. These further increased the damage. I didnt have the urge or bucks to start the repairs when I found them so I started 2 weeks ago. To get through the winter without further damage I placed 1/4 inch plywood plates inside of the rim joist and between the floor joists and with a 1/2 inch hole in each plate I filled in the void behind with foam. I am including these pics of the damage after I and my friend removed the decking and 2 cubic yards of rubble and block from the old stoop to access the damage. I also am including the finished job pics. And I wonder why my knee is still giving me grief!!!!

Well Dave This is the problem we run into at times and wonder how the guy thought it would work. DUMB. but he thought it was a fix but you have to fix the mess now and expense. Good luck with the knee and the repair..sailer

Just another little bet of help with the rehab! Seems like these things always turn up at the wrong time. The repair is looking good. Hang in there on the rehab.

Good idea to get Sampson to help you! Looks like he took the brunt of the work.
