Toyo tires, yes, no, maybe so..??

I priced 2 Michelin's, the tire guy asked if I would consider Toyo's, about $100.00 a tire cheaper, and a great tire..he said.
Whaddya think?

What are you putting the tires on? Your truck or your trailer? If the trailer Lonnie whose advice I highly respect, has never mentioned Toyo for trailers. I have no experience with Toyo and know many people use them but if a dealer told me he has a tire that is $100 cheaper red flags would be flying all over for me.

A friend of mine recommended the Toyos. He is an ex truck driver and said they are one of the better tires. I had one on my old rig. Never had any trouble with it. It replaced one of the blowouts I had. Was going to put them on all wheels but had trouble finding them. If my new rig starts the blowout routine I'll definitely try finding Toyos. Good luck. Dennis

There are three of us here who all put Toyos on our rigs. As long as you have 6K axles and the tires are made in Japan (i.e. not China - be sure to check as the do make some there) you are good to go. I had 20K on them on the last RV and the others are still using them (I would guess they have another 10K each on them). But Lonnie's list has equally good tires and some are cheaper than Toyos.

Toyos are carried by Les Schwab who is everywhere in CA, OR, and WA where we spend a lot of time.

I asked Lonnie on fb, he just got back from a trip, so I bet he is behind in all sorts of stuff.
I have new tires on the Monte (and new wheels) it's for the truck.
The tire guy is honest I have been dealing with and smart. He and his dad have them on their various vehicles, and they can have any tire they want.
I found an old post of Lonnies, he said they are good tires.
Oh, my subscription doesn't work for some reason. (I will check my Spam file), I may have accidentally put an email there and now the email robot thinks it is doing good..
On edit: Yep, the robot did as requested, it was the dummy punching the keyboard, all is well now. Had a bunch of them in the 'Bin' as the english say.

Toyo and Kumho tires are what the tire dealers in town sell and most of the ranchers use out here, mostly because they still have a road hazard warranty. With the flint rock in our gravel roads I've had a set of original equipment Firestones last less than 5 months and they were all shot. Used Kumho's on my previous trucks, the other dealer sold the Toyo's and have few problems and warranty was always honored. That being said the orignial BF Goodrich's I have on now are almost a year old and still going strong.

Just put a set of four TOYO open country on my Dodge truck. we have hauled a heavy load of firewood and the trailer one time. Tracked very well and no complaints. We even tried (DW was driving) to bury the truck pulling a tree in the forest and it pulled right out of the crud in 4wd. So far very happy.

I ran the Toyo Open Country on my Chevy trucks. I averaged 72/75k out of 3 different sets. I was very happy with the performance of this tire.

Do you truck a favor and at least compare the General Grabber HTS. I can't say enough good stuff about these tires and my experience with them.

I run the Toyo's on my truck. They have an HD version which are made for the high torque diesels and have a higher weight rating. Put them on before heading to Alaska last year. So far they are wearing better than my previous set of michelins.

They sure must be different than the ones the Dealer put on my 05 Dually, by 36K they would no longer pass NYS Inspection and had to be replaced. And most of that mileage was pre-Montana, first a 24' TT then a 30' TT and just about all normal highway miles.

I just put a new set of Toyo Open Country tires on my 2002 Montana when I traded it on on the 2011. I had them switch the tires between the old and new trailers as part of the sales agreement so the Toyos are now on my new trailer and they've been back and forth to Alaska twice with no problems. if they don't get too pricey i'll buy them again!!

Thanks folks for the replies, I do appreciate it.
I will let you know what I go with and why.
But I'll tell you in advance, I am not too bright and will probably go with whatever takes the littlest thought and effort.

After agonizing about it, comparing, talking to experts and flipping a coin, I am going back with Michelin's.
Have to sell another A/C unit...
Going in to the 'Big city' today, get tires, oil changed and look up in the air at the big 2 story buildings, tallest thing I have seen in months have been the Saguaro.
Hate going to the city....
Wonder if the strip clubs are open in the day-time...
