Couldn't fight it any longer...

Took delivery on a 2012 Ford F250 6.7 SWD Lariat crew cab this week. I very reluctantly gave up my 7.3 1999 diesel workhorse.
The new rig is golden bronze and has some stuff I wouldn't have ordered, but this color is hard to find.

I read everything I could, talked to owners, mechanics, etc and think we've made a good choice. Just hope it is as good of a tow vehicle and as trouble free as the '99 was.

Just took delivery of my 2012 F350 6.7 a week ago. Like you I did a lot of reading and could find no negatives about the new engine. Almost 500 miles already and loving it.
Found one that already had the factory hitch prep. Bought the Reese hitch to go with it. Nice. Like the B&W, remove the hitch and the bed is flat, no rails.
Enjoy!

Congratulations and good luck with your new truck. Like you I never would have ordered half the stuff that's on ours, but since we have it we now use most of it and would want it again. First night we brought the Monty home I used the cell phone thru the radio function (I was sure that was a waste of money) to call Joyce on her cell so she could talk me thru the S turn and down a hill where it had to park in the dark. Made it first try with her help. We now use that every time we park. All that stuff is good, you'll love it.

You won't be disappointed Warren. The difference is like night and day. The 7.3 is a great motor, the 6.7 is stronger plus you get the Tow/Haul feature. You won't go back!

Congratulations on the new truck Warren. We love the new 6.7 and it is a strong towing machine! Love that color too, almost went with the bronze - color choice was actually difficult as I liked the autumn red a lot too.

I'm looking for a new F350 can't find on locally yet. My 07 is rusting so bad from the salt and chemicals that the ski area in Vt puts on the road. We call it the Okemo rot happens to all the fulltime employees and those that ski daily there.

Tfthorp - Go to ford.com and click on "shopping tools" and "search dealer inventory". You can check the inventory of every dealer any where in your area and see what, if any, F350s they have. I live 30 miles north of the Dallas area so there are lots of dealers nearby. My home town dealer did not have what I wanted. So looking for the color and configuration I wanted, I searched the inventory of dealers within 60-70 miles of me and found a number of vehicles similar to what I was wanting. Then just a matter of contacting the respective dealer with the vehicle that most closely matched my wants. Saves a lot of running around.

Thanks all, I'm sure we didn't go wrong, I just hated to part with my 7.3 and have been fighting doing so.

New truck came with all the towing packages except the hitch. It's a short bed and I already had a slider which was swapped over. All the gadgets will take some getting used to and some I'm sure we'll utilize. Still not sure I'll ever need a Moon Roof!

Now, I need to get 500 miles on it,

Warren

You are going to enjoy that new truck, congratulations. I hope the 6.7 continues to build a rep like the 7.3 has.

It varies a little by year, but the difference between the 7.3 and 6.7 is substantial.

Not only the differences between the engine HP and Torque, the newer technologies, construction and components have also improved tow capacities substantially, but this goes for all brands of trucks. I like that table provided by BB_TX, but besides the engine/trans there have been many suspension and brake changes that have really helped things along.

I can appreciate your love for the 7.3 you have used up to now, but I hope you don't feel guilt when you find that this new truck will be outstanding for your needs. How's the saying? All good things must come to an end, then the new things are even better.

Ironically so did I. Even the same color as yours except two tone with fender flares. Traded a 2010 6.4 thus look forward to better MPG's. On a recent trip to Yellowstone NP I spoke to many 6.7 owners and did not hear a negative remark. Congrats

IM wavering back and forth with the purchase of a new F350 and retire my 97 F350 7.3 diesel. Those of you that did some research surely know of the documented Turbo issues with the 6.7's especially the 2011's. "Ford Powerstroke Forums"
QUESTION for you new F350 6.7 owners. What gear ratio with SRW models did you order? IM leary of the 3:31 gearing and the next higher gearing option is the 3.55. Higher gearing 3.73 isn't available unless you go with the DRW. Anyone towing with the 3.31?

thanks
