bug screen on heater

I have a bug screen on our heater. The instructions say not to leave it on when using the heater. No explaination as to why.

Does anyone know what the downside of keeping it on all the time?

If the screen is too restrictive, then it could cause the heater to malfunction. From the threads I've read here before, and my own experience, nobody has had a problem leaving the screens on. I don't know the brand of my screen, but it's about the size and shape of half a tennis ball, maybe a little bigger, and is held on with a spring.

If there is a downside I have not found it. I also run a mud dabber screen on heater vent.

Use the screen and forget about it.

You're talking about the screen on the furnace vents, right? The only reason Suburban uses that "lawyer talk" about not using screens on the vents is to protect themselves if they can prove that restriction of the vents causes the furnace to malfunction. We've been using them on the furnace vents for 27 years with no failures.
