Water pump problem

My water pump runs but does not pump. Selector turned to city water. If I set to winterize it pumps water but water heater is bypassed so no hot water I have read on this forum about a defective check valve causing this problem but I could not find the post

Have you ever been able to pump water with the pump? I just had to replace the water pump on the father-in-law’s trailer, and in the little over a year he’s had it, he rarely had to use the pump, and when he needed to use it, it would run but not pump. I still need to take it apart to see why it wasn’t working. I’ve also experienced having a pump not work, ran but no water, and it was a screen plugged up. The new rigs don’t come with screens, so maybe some trash is in the pump and not allowing it to suck water.

There is a check valve on the back of the city water connection. I fixed a similar problem by replacing the intake connection. Got the replacement at an RV dealer.
