Lets poll all the truck options just for fun

I saw the old post for 2x4 vs 4x4 and it had a survey. That sparked my interest. I am really curious about just how each of the following stack up with ownership.

So lets run a Survey to end all surveys on tow trucks:
Brand
3/4 vs 1 ton
Long bed vs short
Dually vs SRW
Diesel vs Gas

I don't know how to actually add a multi question survey to a thread. Can someone else jump in to help?

Might do the same thing on floorplans (IE: actual model # and maybe length?). Just curious about how popular each is. Not suggesting one is better than the other just because it might be more popular.

I expect, based on what I have seen on here that it will be split fairly close to even on every option listed. They don't make all the options for nothing.

And no this isn't intended as a popcorn event......but if history is any indicator you might want to grab a bowl anyway.

What I have is a great F350 but I want to buy the new GMC 2500 but my wife won't let me spend $80K+.

I do hate my sun roof however...never get one, a waste of money.

SRW because a DRW is just to big
4X4 because I like going to the snow. Here in Ca. you get to do that. ROFL
A F250 and F350 are the same truck which confuses lots of folks.

However you can get the 11,500 payload in the F350 but most have the 10,000 payload.
Short bed because I don't need a bus. Also super cab because I don't haul around kids. All grown up thankfully.

Last but not least a diesel; because of the power to get the job done. There is a steep learning curve on the diesel compared to gas. It may be more expensive to own a diesel but hey we can spend $$$ on a RV and not blink.

At the MOC Rally 2019 wife and I rode around in our golf cart.
Dually Fords out numbered all the other makes.
SRW Rams seemed to be most popular. Followed by Ford.
One ton trucks were hands down winner.

Years ago I did a similar informal poll on floorplans and how many owned each. I listed all floorplans in a column in my original post and as members posted the floorplan they owned, I added up the numbers, edited my original post, and kept a running total of each next to the floorplan list. And keeping the info in the first post of the thread, it was easy to find the running totals. But now you cannot edit a post after a day or so, so that is no longer an option.

I stopped keeping it up to date when I realized old floorplans typically only lasted 3-5 years before being replaced by new ones making that list no longer relevant.

My truck info is listed below in my sig.

We sorta do the same every time we drive thru a RV park and even on the road. Of course when you own something it you tend to notice it more (IE: we own a Ram 1 ton dually and before we did I never realized just how many are out there).

When you get into the 38'+ range it does seem that the dually diesels really take over. I guess that only stands to reason. When I think of Montana's I don't really envision anything less than 38'. I'm not even sure they have a floor plan smaller. I know for sure as a full timer I wouldn't want to live in anything less!!

I wouldn't get a sunroof on a factory order, We bought our truck gently used truck with only 22k miles on it. Unfortunately it has a sunroof. But the price was a steal. I can live with a sunroof for what we spent. It also had the snow plow pkg on it but the original owner never used for that purpose so we got dual 220A alternators and heavier front suspension also. Should we wish to install a DC to DC charging system, we are ready. The heavier front suspension is harsher but not an issue... so far. Truck runs like a champ.

Went shopping six years back for a Chevy/GMC diesel dually and couldn't find one with less than 100k miles and $40k. Ended up with my ancient '06 F350 6.0 long bed crew cab Lariat that only had 28k miles and was priced at the same after taking my 125k mile '04 Chevy gasser. Flushed the coolant system, added a filter and it's been fine for 70k miles with 40 of them towing our Monty. Just had to replace a second injector, but that's life with an old diesel.

Sig truck - F250 with camper and 5er packages which make the 10,000 pound 'B' pillar sticker a farce with an actual 12,100 pound capacity(yes, I've upgraded the tires to match). Currently pushing 126,000 miles with no real problems ever though an EGR cooler is waiting on a shelf for that day when I can't clear the P0401 code.

Since we are taking a poll is it worth while doing the transmission, or am I the only one with a 6 speed?

2006 Chevrolet 3500 DRW LB LBZ Duramax 140,000 miles running strong. Had it already for towing my 36’ Intrepid power boat so pulling my 2014 318RE a dream. Over the years I changed out the stereo system for a Panasonic which is bluetooth, NAV, phone, voice commands movies, other apps, air bags, Biltstein shocks,. New is nice but do not want to spend the 70k+ when this is just fine.

My 12 year old 6.4 Ford isn’t as quiet and doesn’t ride as smooth as the new trucks but with 600+ HP and 1100 TQ it will pull with the new trucks. With only 80,000 miles on it it’s a keeper at least until my wife ask when I’m going to get a new truck, like she did when I had a 2004 model. After she ask that I went down the next day and ordered my King Ranch.

2016 Ram 2500 4x4 Diesel 6 spd SRW 6.5ft bed.

Towing a 35 Ft (Yes they do make them) 2019 3121RL..

We dont full time, and likely never will although we will use it a whole lot more in a few years when we retire. Its a great size for the two of us and the pups, and we have the W/D so the DW is happy. Enough space for us and its right at 12K lbs so the Ram handles it no problem.. I also run the F rated Toyo Open Country ATs so the tires are up to the task..
