Cleaning Tolilet (water marks) - Montana Owners Club

Living in Arizona we can use our Mountaineer year round, so it's usually ready to go. I'm getting calcium deposit in the toilet bowl from standing water being in it. What can I clean it with, Pumice stone? and how do I prevent this in the future.

I have found, by accident, that when I dumped liquid laundry treatment Calgon in the toilet, and let it stand instead of the water that there is some scum left as a deposit, but that scrubs off very easily. The "ring" did not stain, and washed totally away.

That is the same Calgon we use in the black and gray tanks to soak off the scum and ickies.

The calcium residue comes, of course, because of calcium in the water. The long term fix is use a water softening filter system. However, cheap, plain, white vinegar will dissolve the calcium.

We found this gem at Home Depot.
OdoBan "Shower Control" it is an organic acid cleaner. Not toxic, will not burn hands, Earth Friendly. It cleans that toilet residue like you wouldn't believe. Also, that pipe below the toilet leading to the black tank. We have tried it on the "4 sq corners" of the pull outs and it seems to take off that build up. They seem to be made of a different type of metal.

Is it a porcelain tank?

If so,

KABOOM! That is a product and it works great. I don't know how it would do on plastic, but porcelain is not problem.

Yes, it is a porcelain bowl.I appreciate the input, I imagine I can use a soft scour Scotch Brite sponge to scrub the bowl, to help get rid or the deposits.

What can I do to prevent this in the future or is it just part of the game.

The more you abrade the surface, the more the deposits will adhere to it. That is why I suggested the chemical solution to dissolve the deposits with vinegar. You problem is with the water, not the RV appliances. Unless you remove the calcium or lime from the water, it will continue to cling to the sides of your porcelain bowl.

Stiles is right, do not use an abrasive on it. KABOOM only takes about 10 minutes to work and it comes of with a toilet brush. I'm think the other chemicals would be the same.

I'll have to look at the label, but it sure is going to be diluted a lot when it gets in there. I'll check. Besides, you don't need but a spray around the bowl for it to do it's trick. It removes calcium and all types of deposits.
