Homemade wi-fi boost
Most parks have so-so wi-fi. I found a way to boost my signal on my notebook. I found an old Dish from Dish Network. I got rid of the LNB and cut the arm off. I mounted my network card in the center. I got a pipe that I mounted with back to back clamp type conduit straps on my ladder. I can turn it any direction and it's above all the campers in the park. I pick up all sorts of signals and most of them are strong. Some secure some not. I looked on the internet, and people are making them out of aluminum pans, and colanders, anything that is parabolic in shape works. The network card are realitively cheap. The USB cable is kind of spendy (Wisconsin accent) but you need one to get it up in the air...have fun!

The card should be at the focal point of the dish which is where the LNB is.

I'm only picking up what's in the park..not signals 8 or 10 miles away.

Ya, it should be at the focal point, but before I knew what I was doing I whacked it off. It is working good..at least until I find a single type LNB and put the network card on the new arm.

Rog, how about some pictures? Is yours waterproofed so it could be used in the rain? I'm interested, in case you can't tell. I got interested when we discussed by email. Let me know details. Thanks.

Well, I rebuilt the dish and found the focal point. the dish can really be anything including pots and metal dog dishes, but focal point is critical...I am finding out for optimum results. Formula is...D2/16d that is Diameter squared, divided by 16Xdepth. Should be pretty close, within 1/4 inch. Here is some homemade Wi-Fi amplifiers
