verizon provides free wifi network access to evdo

Verizon just announced that they will provide free wifi network access to its EVDO/mobile broadband customers, and that usage over wifi network would not count against the 5gb allowance for cellular network.

in my opinion, this will make verizon even more popular for the RV community.

Alex,

It remains though that to use this free wifi network, you must be on a paid broadband plan with Verizon. Is this correct? Dennis

yes, thats true. to hook up to the hotspot identifying itself as "Verizon Wi-FI", you'd need to be a current subscriber.

however, there are many related discussions that point out the fact that the locations verizon indicate as having their free wifi network, already also may be providing free wifi altogether, with no need for a verizon mobile broadband plan.

coincidentally (or maybe not), mcdonalds just announced that they will drop their fees to use wifi at their locations, beginning in january, 2010.
