Walnut Ridge CG

This is a beautiful well manicured CG out in the IN countryside. The owners live across the street from the CG entrance. The CG does not have provisions for dumping sewer or gray water at your site. We stayed a week and I had to use our blue boy one time. A beautiful country golf course a few miles away and great family restaurants in New Castle.

There is a well maintained dump station as you exit the CG. It's also easy to dump and flush your "Blue Boy" there.

Our site was a pull thru with W&E (50A) and a concrete slab. We had clear skies for our dish antenna.

Natchez Trace state park sits on a huge section of land about 8 miles south of I-40 at exit 108. It has all the amenities you would expect from a large SP and more.

Our parking site was the largest we ever had in all of our travels. It was a 50 AMP FHU and washing the tow vehicle and RV were allowed, once. There are three different RV parking areas. We were parked at the Pin Oak CG. It’s been awhile since we’ve been there. On our last stay your CG receipt acted as your fishing license. It allowed everyone at your campsite to fish in all of the park’s lakes and streams. I could walk across the CG road in front of our trailer, walk down a well used path and fish from the banks all the way to pavilion 2. I got some nice bass and pan fish on my trips down that path.

The link is active.

During one long journey across the northern states using US-2, we found plenty of well established RV Parks & CGs without having to make reservations. For those with discount cards or military discounts we found many that would give the 7th day free. Most of the smaller ones like Northland RV Park at South Range were always clean with friendly management staffs.

About every 2nd or 3rd stop we spend a week. Especially if the side trips are lengthy. From this CG we ventured far and wide. Up north to a cozy little Indian Casino with a friendly restaurant. Then we went south on a big loop on very scenic highways. On one of them we found some of the Walton wealth. Oil, lots of it. We went to Duluth, MI twice. Itís a beautiful little city. At the city park you can go right down and soak your feet in the waters of Lake Superior.

El Centro, CA

Because I’m retired from the USN (31 years) we qualify for military RV Parking wherever available. Some often wonder why we don’t post about parking out west. The area is saturated with military RV Parks and we use them. They are less expensive and when located within the confines of the base, security is provided 24/7. Many offer long term “snow bird” parking with ample overflow sites to park in while waiting for a FHU site.

One year we decided to spend three months at the naval recreational area in San Diego, CA. (They now allow civilians to park there with approved MWR passes). It was a rainy year and in excess. Mud slides were reported in the surrounding mountains and we left. We had called the Naval Air Facility at El Centro and got into an overflow site with FHU – 30 AMPS, we took it.

NAF El Centro is the winter home for the Blue Angel’s Navy flight demonstration team. They got there almost the same time as us. We got air shows 5 days a week starting at 0800 each day. Before they got there the RV population equaled the base population. We could eat at the chow hall 5 days a week without reservations.

Our overflow site was in an old parking lot that backed-up to an active ball field. A short walk across the street was the chow hall, bowling alley and golf driving range. A RV maintenance center was at the west end of the parking lot.

We were going to stay 2 months but the rain found us once again. Without an adequate water drainage system the parking lots filled with water. The base had to hire huge tanker trucks that had the ability to vacuum the excess water and dump it in the nearby aqueduct. We went to Yuma and found a vacancy at a seniors (55+) RV Park and parked there for the rest of our winter stay in the west. It did rain at Yuma, but not heavy. The rain awakened the dormant flowers and the surrounding desert areas became beautifully covered with all kinds of desert flower colors.
