We do the same thing. The ONLY drawback is the amount of paper towels that we go through. A small drawback though.

We generally use a napkin with our meal so we just use that to do a quick wipe of the plate. The napkin was going in the trash anyway. We also have fine strainers in the sink drains. We always try to minimize any food scraps going down the drain where ever we are as we are on a septic system at home also.
