6.0 PSD Emissions recall

Received a flyer from Ford today detailing the following:

Emisions Recall 05E15
• Corrects Emissions Compliance issue
• Updates the software in the engine control modules
• Replaces the Exhaust Pressure (EP) sensor

This is for certain 2004-2005 model year F-Super Duty, Excursion, and E-350/450 vehicles with the 6.0L diesel engine

The update will address symptoms of rough idle, loss of power, hard starting, and engine stalling. It will also improve cooling system performance and reliability and reduce smoke and odor at idle.

I think that's the one I got last summer and had taken care of this fall. They also found another recall for my automatic transmission ('04). Took a week to do it...kinda like a full rebuild! Good for 100k miles or more!

My '02 7.3 started to "miss" a few times while at different speeds. Took it into the dealer and the computer said that it had a bad "Cam Sensor" ???? Said that if it went completely bad, that the truck would stop in it's tracks. I would hate that while pulling going down the road at 60 mph. Cost me the $100. deductible..Hope that was all.

Replaced my CPS last June. Same as Richard, only cost the $100 for the deductible. My PSD stopped twice before I could get it in for service, but restarted both times. Luckily I was not pulling the RV.

Basically, the letter I received said CERTAIN 04 and 05 models with the 6.0 PSD. The letter did say if people have concerns to call 1-800-392-3673 with the unit's VIN or Ford can be connected via Internet at www.ownerconnection.com.

You can go on-line to http://myford.fordvehicles.com
Set up an account with your Ford vehicle VIN # and you can get immediate information if there are any recalls that apply to your specific VIN #.

I just checked my 2004 F250 and no recalls. Actually, there hasn't been any since new and I have over 25,000 trouble free miles. KNOCK ON WOOD! A friend bought an 04 F250 from the same dealer about 4 months after I did and has had 3 recalls. More than likely built at a different Ford plant with different sub-contractor suppliers.

I just wanted to update this with you—I took the truck in today and the service manager warned me off about having this update done. He said that numerous owners who had already done this had come back complaining about a severe drop in mpg. When he asked me if the truck was running poorly, I said no, and he suggested I might want to reconsider, which I did. I was having a rattle in the air conditioner blower, so I left it to have that fixed, but the lady said that Ford probably would not be happy about them doing this, but they want happy customers and that once the reprogramming was complete, there would be no going back.

The way my service writer explained it there are two "recalibrations" that they are doing. I have a late 2005 PSD. The recalibration notice for me was 05B35. They said the issue was the engine control modules may not be calibrated to the latest software levels. There was a note saying that "vehicles operated in cold weather may experiance a small reduction in acceleration during the first few minutes of cold engine operations." I did notice after that the high pitch whine or whistle that I had at idle was gone and the engine did not smoke as much during cold start up. Fuel consumption returning home, about 50 miles, seemed normal.

I got the recall notice and got the work done last Monday. So far I'm not seeing any difference. Anybody know what problem the defective Exhaust Pressure Sensor might cause?

I received my notice of recall. Ford wants to reprogramme my module. When I return from our trip down to the RGV the work will be done. I have a '05 F-350 TD 6.0.

Mine has been done long enough now to go through two tanks of fuel. If anything, the truck runs better with slightly better mileage. I was getting 15.5 MPG with the vented tailgate, 16.5 MPG with the stock tailgate, and I'm getting about 17 MPG now. I'll be driving to Portland and back this weekend so it should tell me for sure how things are going. I should have about 30,000 miles on the truck when I return.

My recall stated it needed to be done so it would pass NY Stae inspection. Had it done plus another recall for the radiator fluid level mark on the tank.

Bill, I would be interested in knowing how your fuel mileage goes.

Just got back from Portland. Fuel mileage was 16.3 MPG at around 65-70 MPH in a fierce head wind going over, 16.5 MPG coming home at around 70-75 MPH. Empty of course.
