Vacuum seal

I like your thoughts on pre-cooking and vacuuming, freezing.

My question is what machine did you use or recommend. I had one 10 years ago and it was not as convenient as I anticipated. . Perhaps operator issues!!!

So, I am curious what equipment you use?

It's called Food Saver. You can buy rolls to make the size you need or buy pint and quart size bags.

Mina, we use the Food Saver and it is easy to use. Costco sells them.

We got a Vac-Master Pro-130 last year from Bass Pro. It's been good so far. We were given an older foodsaver several years ago, it also works ok. The Vac-master is a bit larger than the foodsaver. We've been getting the cheapest bags in rolls. They have been working for both units.

Well I don't even know where to start extolling the praises I have for my Food Saver Vacuum. I make 2# Meat Loaves and vacuum pack them after I cook them. My wife and I shop at Costco and Sam's and buy a lot of meat in bulk. I break down the packages into 2 serving portions and vacuum and freeze them. Of course I note on each package, its contents, cooking/reheating instructions and the date it was frozen. I love that machine! I had a real nice chicken breast the other night that I made chicken parmesan out of that was dated 2/17/2015. It was WONDERFUL. I don't have to put a lot of frozen meat in the Monty's freezer. I just put the vacuum packed stuff that I will need for the 1 or 2 week trip. Saves time when we're out camping too. Reheating a meat loaf is a lot easier than making one from scratch while we're trying to enjoy the trip. I learn new uses for the machine constantly. I highly recommend using one.

Great idea, For years I have made the meat loaf, froze it in the pan, then vac packed it. When I went to cook it (after thawing) I always looked forward to the cooking smell as much as the meat loaf itself. I think I will try your method next time and hopefully get the same satisfactory smell. Love meat loaf sandwiches.

Back to the thread - Myna, we use a Food Saver from Costco and buy their bags from the Food Saver website. They have great sales.

Got ours at Costco years ago, still works great. Save a lot of money by buying when things are on sale and packaging it to the correct size for my wife to make our meals. Takes a little effort but well worth it. Vacuum packed food stays good for a long time.

We use ours all the time also. It moves between the house and the trailer.

I smoke cheese and vacpak it to age for a month before eating. Use the food saver brand fm2400 series. Better than they use to be and they weregood in the past. Haven't looked at the specs on the food saver bags, but used a commercial brand sealer for boiling fish, etc in the bags.

Can't really add to what has been said. We have only had ours for about 5 months. Being a Sam's Club member we feel most of their meat is higher quality and much cheaper, but packaged in bigger quantities than we need. The Food Saver solved all those problems.

I have 2 different Food Saver brand units, and the LEM MaxVac 1000 also. The Food Saver ones work well until you have a lot of things to seal at once. I process my own deer during hunting season so I needed the MaxVac to get the job done. The Food Saver ones work very well though, they just overheat after a few seals and cause you to wait too long when you have 4 or 5 deer to process.
