This seems like a low number. If true then there are going to be a lot of unhappy owners towing Montanas.
Probably have to go to a GMC trailer site to find that info.

Went to the trailer towing guide from GMC and yes the max trailer weight for a 2019 2500 crew cab standard bed 4WD Duramax is 13,500 Lbs.

That makes anyone with that truck towing ANY Montana 2019 up as being OVERWEIGHT. Since the smallest Montana is the 3120/3121 and that is 16350 GVWR. In that year GM yo would have to go to the 3500 crew cab 4WD Diesel with 4:10 gears to have the max 17,000 tow weight.

FWIW.

I can't speak for other makes nor can I speak for newer or older models... But I do know the Duramax from 2011 - 2015 the only difference between the 2500 and the 3500, the 3500 has an overload spring.. This allows it more payload, but no more towing capacity. Which one could argue, the 3500 CGVW is slightly less than the 2500HD because of the added weight of the springs.. The pin weight of my Montana is around 2300lbs. I've added airbags to my truck and it sits relatively flat. I have never pulled a 5th wheel with a dually, but I can see how that added sidewall and width could make things feel a bit more solid while going down the road.

You are correct.

Trucks, ?????

I have been fortunate to own many Trucks. Always buy GM Trucks, except one time I purchased a Freightliner Sports chassis.

It is a decision one has to make. Size does matter, however what you do how you travel, how you load etc. Many will try to fill every empty space within the 5th wheel. We use to do that, hauling a lot of extra weight is a waste. My opinion.

We began with a GM 2500, then went to a GM3500 DRW, not much difference in fact, then we went to a GM 4500, uplifted with hauler bed. Then back to a GM3500 DRW, all 1 tons were DRW's. Then we went to a Frieightliner Sports chassis, which was for comfort, everything was on Air including the 5th wheel hitch. We also towed a Chevy HHR behind the SOB, never and issue towed all over America. Stopped one time for length.

It is a choice, your choice. Be Happy.

Happy Trails.

Those guides are just that, guides. Although there is a considerable difference between the 2500 and 3500 in ratings, these numbers are based upon a standard truck. Meaning a truck with fewer options which would make the ratings a bit higher. The way to know what a specific truck can tow is to weigh everything and compare it to the gcvwr posted on the door jamb sticker.

I know of no one who tows at GVWR... Our Montana has a GVWR of 16000 lbs. Loaded ready to go we are 13000 lbs.. Empty the trailer is 12280.... If an RV is being towed at GVWR then there is no room for people to be inside...

Ours is often at its max weight of 15560. Loaded with full water sitting on the independent suspension disc brakes and 14 ply tires we are at 13750 just on the two axles

I had to read this three times to realize you must be referring to people inside the tow vehicle, LOL.
