Underbed Storage
I believe this will be an easy one for someone to chip in on. When we looked initially at the underbed storage (with the Brinks safe) it appeared to be only about 4-6" deep. Is there additional storage under this area or is there something else there taking up space that I don't know about.

I had hoped the same thing but it was not to be. That area is full of the hydraulic system for the bedroom slide.

The mechanism for the bedroom slide is located in that area. There is some unused space there and some owners have been able to utilize it for storage.

I kind of figured no space would go unwasted, but wasn't sure. Thanks for the info. This forum is great, a true encyclopedia of Montana knowledge!!!!!!

You can store a lot of stuff under there..just be careful not to impede the hydraulics.

Does the panel with the safe on have hinges or can it be lifted out?? Guess like everything else, I can check it on Saturday during the PDI. Richfaa, I know you have a lot of problems (tried to read everything you have posted), can you e-mail me or PM a summary of anything that you think I should look for during the PDI. I have a summary list and knowledge of all the general things, but if you have any 3400 specific items, all help is definitely appreciated.

The plywood sheeting that the safe is on is screwed onto the bed frame by just a few deck screws. Disconnect the gas struts before you remove these screws and have someone hold the mattress up otherwise you'll be wearing it. Ha!. Remember when storing stuff beneath it that the hydraulic framework stays put while the bed frame moves in and out. In other words, if you pack the area while the bedroom slide is in, you'll sandwich the stuff against the framework when the slide goes out possibly popping the end of the bed frame off.

hopefulowner..we did send you a PM... problems are not model specific..they can be across the board. We used this forum..Read the post on problems other folks had, listed them, then looked for the issues on our 3400 at PDI..It worked well and is where this forum is of great value. We left the dealers lot with no problems, The problems we experienced have occured or been observed since we left the lot..most of them on this 3000 mile trip.We are going to find these kind of problems on any brand camper we purchase..that is the nature of the Rv industry. The difference for Montana owners is we have this forum where we can freely express our concerns and how we deal with them and a manufacturer that will stand behind the product.Do not hesitate to report issues on the forum and do not hesitate to let Keystone know.If we correct things on our own and do not report the problem to Keystone, no matter how small, then there is no problem and Keystone can not correct it. We know Keystone listen's but if they hear nothing..they can do nothing.
