Full time RVer’s and still learning

If full time RVer, can ice machine be used year round? Live in Oklahoma, so it gets cold. Thanks.

More questions about location of shut off valves for ice maker. 2019 Montana 3811 MS. I found the one under the sink. The refrigerator is in a slide out with oven and fireplace tv area. I looked behind the drawer under oven and see some other lines with shut off valve. But, I also see a line on the outside of RV hooked with some other lines at the end of a slide out. So, I’m thinking that area could freeze very easily since it is close to the very end.

Karen,

Welcome to the forum! You should be able to use your ice machine all year.

It can get cold in OK with serious wind chills on occasion. If you find you have an issue you may have to open the cabinet where the shutoff is or find another way to get heat back there.

Hi Karen and welcome to the group. I’m not sure what model you have or weather your fridge is in a slide out, but if it’s in a slide out, it may have the water line to the fridge exposed to the weather outside under the slide. If so, it could freeze. Our Montana is like that. The two folks that replied before me are very experienced (way more than I) so maybe I am missing something, but I wouldn’t want to lead you wrong, or see your lines freeze. Again, welcome.

If the water line is exposed under the slide out going to the refrigerator, yes it can and does freeze.

This is my line going to the refrigerator at the outside edge of the slide-out, underneath, 100% exposed:

This is the other end where it goes inside the frame (where it is heated):

This is where the line comes up through the slide out floor (inside the camper).

So yes, if water sits in that exposed section under the slide out, it will freeze, unless you can keep a steady stream of water trickling through it, which isn't possible with a refrigerator ice machine.
