Hi! Deborah from Calif.
Hello all... I've long dreamed of hitting the open road in an rv but doing so alone seems a bit scary.
But was looking up why an oven hood fan blows in instead if out, I found you guys!

Good morning Deborah. Whereabouts in California are you? I take it you're towing a Montana and setting it up by yourself? I applaud you.

Deborah, check the outside of your unit where the stove/microwave would be, looking for a vent where the microwave is. If you don't have the vent your microwave vent fan will just return the air back inside. If you do have the vent, you will need to have your microwave pulled and the fan re-positioned to exhaust outside. It's possible they forgot to switch the fan during the manufacturing process.

My 2006 Mountaineer had a fan flap outside, with a tab to keep it shut, if I forgot to flip the tab, the air from the fan would blow back inside

This is a pic looking up inside of my vent outlet. There are two movable tabs inside that hold the flap - unfortunately the pic is a bit too dark to see them clearly - so I outliined them in gray. When the tabs are horizontal - the vent door is held shut. When you turn the tabs down or up (vertical - I outlined in red) the door flap is open and will let the venthood air flow out.

Welcome to the forum! You'll find you're not unusual as a single female on the road. Camping groups like Escapees have sub groups exclusively for folks in your situation.

Hi Deborah and welcome to the forums.
I'll let others respond to your vent issues, but thought I'd share with you in a slightly different way.
Here's an all ladies camping group organization that have chapters all over the US. They are a great bunch of people as we've run into a couple of their camping groups over the years.
Their moto (use to be).... No pets. No kids. No men.
They are an awesome group (if you are a lady!)
Sisters on the Fly - click here.
You might check them out and see what they have that might help alleviate some of your concerns being solo.
Good luck, and again! Welcome!
Here's a link to some of their camper images so you don't have to actually log into their web site to see them. Pretty cool campers. Clcik here

Welcome to the MOC from NY, SC, and GA.
My wife of 50 yrs is a Deborah, great name. We also have a friend that lives in Half Moon Bay. Would love to visit him some time. You'll find this is a great place to find answers and help and just some fun conversations. If you find it's just the tabs holding the fan flap shut, we just leave ours open all the time. Not sure what their purpose is, maybe to keep birds out while on the road.
Enjoy this new adventure.
