Our slotted rod pulled out of the ceiling within the first month or so. Those little 1" screws and the ultra thin rod just wasn't strong enough.
Our model has the dresser in the middle of the closet, not sure if your model is the same. I ran a regular wood clothes rod across and supported it by running two pieces of stained oak up from the dresser sides. Each end of the rod is secured on the wall of the Montana with metal clothes rod brackets. If there was room in there you could use it for a chin-up bar!

thank you for your reply... sounds like your closet is exactly like ours. We will give that a try... I hate not being able to push the clothes into the corners or separating the clothes hangers to get to something in the middle!!!!

I've seen some that use regular electrical conduit (EMT) and closet rod brackets like in a a stick house. They put a strip of foam tape along the top to sorta keep the hangars in place during travel. Depending on span and size of wood dowel ... you may have to use a hangar support mid length from the closet ceiling.

Ours is secured with metal brackets on the ends and two brackets tied to the ceiling joists. It's got a ton of weight on it, but's stayed up for five years. We use hangers like this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/32983975?w...713392&veh=sem
They're tight on a wooden rod, but they don't fall off.

looking at the cabinet in the closet, how did you attach the oak brackets to the formica counter top?

I used to put these in every house I built. Customers loved them every time. You can use common closet rod end socket hardware to mount them.

Lonnie- come to the MOC Central Plains Regional Rally in July and I'll show you what we did with ours. We went to one of the RV salvage businesses up in Michigan while at the Fall Rally and picked up some brackets and metal rods We added a couple broom handles inside the metal closet rods and hung them from the original slotted rod. Works great and since our closet has the full closet road and a half rod on one side I'll be doing the same with the half rod this summer.
