Pest control

I'm going to be parking my Montana at my mothers house in Fl for a couple months. It will not be occupied until we get back there in mid February. It's in a rural area on the edge of the yard. I need a few suggestions about how to keep the critters and bugs out of the unit. I read something about dryer sheets keeping mice away. We plan on spraying bug killer on the ground but i have little faith that it will do much over 4 months. Any tips to share????
Thanks, John

I've never tried anything that worked. If you think about it there is only 4 places that mice can enter your camper, around the wheels and the landing gear. I think if you put some 8 inch flashing around those 4 places you have solved the problem. Just make sure they can't get under it.

I just read another thread about the rodent control issue. Some good tips there as well. Ants are also a concern. Any ideas on the 6 and 8 legged pests?

We have used moth balls in panty hose pieces for the places the mice will come in as well as bait stations between the wheels (got them at a farm store) We also got some high dollar ant traps at the hardware store when we had a bad ant problem this summer and they worked well.

If you will have power, you might try the plug-in mice preventers, available at Lowes and HD. They seem to work fine.

Ants>>>>>>>>>>>>I was told that if you spread comet around the wheels, it will keep the ants from climbing the wheels and getting inside the unit. Also, around the landing gear. I haven't tried this yet, but thought I would pass it on. Good luck.

Should also help keep the tires clean, right?

Couldn't resist a Wagon Master joke----Best way to deal with pests----lock the door and turn out your lights!

Life long FL resident here. Your biggest problem if parking on our "rich, loamy soil", (AKA SAND!!!) will be ants. Get the best insecticide you can find (I use some professional grade stuff called Deamon) and spray the devil out of the wheels and landing gear as high up as you can. You MIGHT get away with that. Better still to have someone like Mom go out and spray again every week. After a year of fighting the little buggers we put our rig under cover on a concrete pad, and still spray.

I think Washley1 has hit on the best solution. I have heard of NO product that will do the job continuously for 4 months. I believe the secret is continued application of whatever product you decide on. I'm not sure about a weekly application being necessary but, regular applications at all ground points (wheels and gear) should be effective.

Remember that most of Florida is MUGGY & BUGGY. You will have a challenge in front of you. Good Luck!

The comet is on the ground circling the tires, not on the tires, lol.

We bought two 5 in one style electronic pest control devices for our Komfort now the Montana. No spiders or vermin of any kind. But you need electricity ! They do work! Just last week I saw a cockroach fall out off the tire holding his ears!

Daemon will last for several months. In fact I use it inside at home and inside the trailer about once a year. Once it drys it is safe for kids and pets. I have used it for 20 years. Bugs come in, but I quickly find them dead. Remember that what ever you spray outside will wash away in our frequent rains, so it will not last as long outside. Comet on the ground here will not last a week!

I'm suprized no one mentioned pepper spray or hot sauce as an alterative. Don't know if it would work to keep them away, or lure them like a dog to a fire hydrant.
