Calling all electricians!

Hi again,

Not sure where to post this so here goes. We purchased a 8.5 x 16 enclosed trailer to haul toys and work stuff. I bought the trailer with the RV style side door so we could use it from inside.

I recently put a box on front and mounted a deep cell battery with the intention of being able to run lights just like in our Mountaineer. I have purchased a central switch with six switches on it to control lights etc.

In order to charge the battery from the 7 pin power plug, what would be the best way to wire it and then hook back into the trailer interior lights? Do I simply splice into the hot wire in the plug near the emergency brake and then run it back to that line or what? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

The center post on the trailer cable is for battery power. Be sure to fuse main supply line to lights. Run power to switch and on to light. Ground light to chassis .

On a deep cell battery there should be threaded terminals for the negative and positive. I would run the charge line directly to this terminal. Then I would attach the feeds for the lights to the same terminal but put a fuse or circuit breaker in the line for the lights. Much cleaner install than splicing wires and everything is more easily traceable if you have problems. Use crimp ring terminals.
