For me I would head west. Love to see Yellowstone and other places out west. All the way to the redwood trees in Oregon.

We would head east.
Isn't it interesting the grass is always greener on the other side...

Being from souther California, and already retired, we've been heading East in Early or late spring. One of these days we'll try in the Fall. We'll avoid Winter and Summer.

So far the most obvious things are how green things are. It really reminds us that we live in more desert-like areas and having grass and sprinkler systems in most areas where we live is a stupid waste of water. Then we wonder why we keep having water shortages and the rates get raised because of it. Starting March 15 (winter) we just got back from an Amtrak trip from Riverside to Chicago, to Washington D.C. and finally to Miami Florida and back. Even the North in the winter is greener than our desert. Plus we got driving snow in North Carolina/Virginia and even more in Colorado. The only major delay we got was the train hit a deer in South Carolina and the carcass broke a line on the frontmost engine. 4 hour delay to fix this and we were good to go.

Nevertheless, we Loved the East! We can't wait to get back there (East for us starts at the California border).

Probably just go home and find something else to do. Wife is becoming more like MIL every day (MIL is now 80 and still working - she doesn't need to - just says she is not going to curl up and die!!). In any case, everytime I mention retiring she just says a few years for her, maybe... If we ever do retire though, I'd like to see the NE and NW parts of this great nation.

When she is on her death bed...is she going to say "darn, wish I'd spent more time at the office," or "I sure am glad I retired and we did all that traveling."

Go west, young man, go west. That is the call I have been listening to for years now, but with my current work schedule, cannot fit it in. Someday perhaps.......

Michigan in the spring, summer and fall is beautiful. Winter is pretty but it's harder to get around. Come to Michigan. You may just like it!

Give our two sons the house we currently live in and find a smaller place. Then head on out towards the East Coast taking in all the sights along the way.

That's what Tre suggested last night. May just go that way. Her great neice is getting married in Clovis in June - sure would be a good start toward Oregon.

Well, we are already retired and I have to say our trip to the Southwest was so far one of the best. That part of the country is beautiful and the National Parks that we saw left us speechless. We spent 3-1/2 months on the road and it still wasn't long enough, will go back again next year and continue enjoying the beauty of our country.

Sunday we are heading south from Maine, working our way down the coast of Virginia to Key West and on the way back up go further inland to see those beautiful mountains and more National Parks.

Retirement is great!!!!

We would probably head west to see some of the things we have always heard about. We would visit the parks, Grand Canyon, etc… we would also enjoy the spontaneous things we would come across while traveling. Then we would come back East, we really enjoy the rivers, green hills & valleys that is all around us.

I am disappointed no one mentioned Beautiful British Columbia.
It is a bright sunny day here, heat off and doors and and windows open.
Just mowed lawn, oops, that was not supposed to be mentioned because it's work

Walt and Lynne, got to agree with you on Michigan. Beautiful state in them seasons, but the winters are tuff!! 61 yrs here and still say its a beautiful state. But I am now retired and just got back from Gulf Shores Al. where we spent the winter. First winter ever without snow..........wow is all I have to say about that. Worked outside all my life and being warm in the winter is very different. Next winter it will be some place new. But this summer we will be at Fletchers Pond near Alpena, MI doing some good visiting with friends and fishing a lot. Love them summers.

Alaska will be are first priority. Since I will retire in January, we will start heading South and West, taking our time. Then up to Alaska when the weather gets warmer.
