50 amp cord walking off
Has anyone experienced your 50 amp powercord walking off. I have not had mine out to a park yet but it would seen like a temtation to some dirt bag. Thinking about fabricating something to lock it to the rig and support the cable at the monty plug in. Sure that cable is pretty spendy.

Never had this happen. Also was a park ranger for a large campground in Michigan a couple of years ago and it never happened there either to any of the campers. Could happen, of course, but that is really not problem enough to detract from the enjoyment of camping and/or living in ones Monty.

I havn't heard of the cord growing legs yet, But I do believe in evalution to a point.
I have been camping for years and I have never had a theft while camping (knock on wood). I have while parked in my storage lot though.
I believe that most RVers are honnist and believ if I saw a crime being commited I would call the rangers office or police with the location and take pictures if possable.

I agree with Trailer Trash 2. Most RVers are honest. I have lost a cord but that was because I failed to do a final walk-around before pulling out of a park at Carlsbad Caverns. I left my entire electrical box with 30 amp cord, 30 amp extension, surg protector, 20 amp cord, and teevee cable sitting on the ground. When we pulled into the next stop (some 300 miles later) on Sunday, we then discovered we had no cords. A call back to the campground was unproductive.
But, I have never had nor heard of a power cord being stolen off an RV. I recently lost 2 $150 hub caps from my 2010 Dodge (in Barstow, CA). Both rear caps disappeared. $301 plus tax to replace them. My dealership let me have them at cost ($200) so I got a little break.

We've never had any cord stolen in almost 10 years of full timing. Camping World sells a locking device that fits on the cable that I use when locking my Surge Guard and cable together and then to the rig. If you're concerned about the cable walking off, you might try that. They sell one for the 30- and one for the 50-amp cable. I have both.

I haven't known anyone personnally who has lost the electric cable. However the companys who buy scrap copper and metal now are require to keep records of copper wire etc. It really got bad in our area since the economy isn't good and so many unemployed it was a quick source of money and copper was and is expensive. GBY...

Never lost one or heard of anyone losing one.
But in the storage facility where I keep the 5er, I do use a short chain and wrap it snuggly around the cord and ladder and put a lock on it. Of course someone could cut the chain or lock, but at least they can't just casually walk up and take it. The facility seems pretty secure and the attendant routinely cruises around in a golf cart, so I don't worry about it too much.

Back in the day of add-on 8 track players and cb's, we have camped in parks that were subject to break-ins- We never had any losses but my son lost an 8 track player- Guess we're just lucky or the S&W sign scared off all potential thieves- Just be careful and "Keep on camping" Don

Never had, but I make a loop or two depending on the excess and put the rear stabilizer in the center of the loop (not on the cord, OK) so if someone did try and take it it would be a little harder. You know how the cord is kinda stiff, so I figured if someone would be looking for easy pickins they would go to my neighbor who's was laying out easy to get. Sorry neighbor, that's life.

I chain mine to the power stalk, then cover the whole thing with a tire cover. The chain is tight enough so that the plug cannot be pulled out. If asked, I say the cover is to keep rain off the plug.

I probably shouldn't say anything... but, I have a 50 amp Surge Guard on my chord. Traveled all over the country, stayed in all kinds of places and it has not walked yet. Had it 4 years now.
Knock on wood!

Never had any problems at camp site... storage is another case... I got broke into when the unit was 2 months old... I have put a security system on the Monty since, and moved to another storage place.

I have never had the power cord or anything else for that matter develop legs and leave in a campground.
As for the price of one $274.78 from Tweetys ( http://tweetys.com/25footpowercordpl...set-50amp.aspx) for a 25' cord with marine connector that works with our trailers.
I did purchase a 25' 50A extension cord last year. Around $125 if I remember correctly. I also carry a 50A to 30A dogbone and 2 25' 30A extension cords. They come in handy for when you don't need 50' and don't want to wrestle the 50A cord and provide a great backup.

Never heard of that happening, but I guess it could. if you're concerned, just back your rig over the cord when you set up. That should deter the most determined dirtbag.

If we are going to be away from the rig overnight we chain and lock the powercord and surge protector to the power pedestal, Best wishes, Jay and Kathy

I’ve never heard of anyone taking a power cord from another camper. I’ve always found that most campers are like minded and therefore don’t bother other campers property. However, I don’t believe that we should tempt them and make it easier for them either. I think a fifty amp cord would be quite a chore to take where it kind of resembles dragging a fire hose around. I find it to be quite cumbersome and actually started using a 30 amp cord since we only have one A/C.

Does anyone no where I could get a 15ft 50 amp cord with the twist end that plugs into the 3400? Or I have 50 amp cord with no ends and would like to make one. Where can I get the connectors at a good price? I have not found anything shorter then 25 ft. and most often 15 feet is fine.

I bought mine at Camping World in Yuma, AZ. Also bought a 50-amp female twist connector that plugs into the rig from an RV Repair shop in Murietta Creek, CA. Believe that any service shop can order them for you and get them within a day or two. They're not cheap!
