Hitch on Montana Mountaineer
I have seen several Montana's with receiver hitches on the back. Is there a particular one made that will fit, or are they custom made. I have read on the site of a few people discussing welding them on. How much will they support, I realize I still need to watch the GVWR. Just looking for some advice.

The one that come as an option from the factory is very poor. 1 1/4 inch square tubing that is not strong enough for much of anything.
Others have had 2 inch square tubing made and had good results with them. You could do a search and find lots of info about those.

The Hidden Hitch Model 82201 is an adjustable width (up to 72") receiver hitch that many members have added to their Montanas. It bolts on by default. If you want a ready made hitch (v. a custom built one), this is the one.

I understand that the Montanas are fitted with a hitch at the factory but the Montana Mountaineers are not so you may need to be wary about what effect adding one to a Mountaineer would have on your warranty.

Mine on our 2002 3295RK is welded in place. I have some photos on my web album link on this page. I think it would tow a motorcycle trailer etc. with no problems.

No slide out cargo rack on the mountaineer. I hope to get a hitched welded on.

I don't want to hijack this thread but it raises an interesting question for me. How do you know what states allow double towing? I'd love to have my 4 wheeler along to 'explore' the back country in Arizona while there. Is double towing legal in most states?
