Not I, but I do know one person that had one knee done about 2 years ago and when he walks you would never know it. As far as I know he's not had any problems but than again he's not the type to say anything.

You will be in our thoughts for a full and complete recovery.

My father-in-law had both knees done at the same time two years ago. He was 84 at that time and is doing well. It was a long time in recovery and he did have a lot of pain the first few days after surgery, but that was taken care of with meds. He has since had a total hip replacement and that has not gone so well, as he has very bad arthritis just about everywhere. His knees however are like that of a much younger person and the knee pain is gone. Best of luck with you surgery and do everything the Dr. tells you to do!

A friend of mine at work has had both hips done, she had to have them done a couple years apart but now she skis, plays golf, everything she did before but now without pain, or as much pain.

Modern Knee replacement surgery is so far advanced that they have you up and walking almost immediately. I know of at least 10 friends and relatives that have had the surgery and wouldn't hesitate to do it again if necessary. My aunt got to the point she couldn't play horseshoes because of the pain. She was the horseshoe champion of the loners on wheels and it was hard to give up the game. Finally someone talked her into the surgery on both knees and she has regained the championship. By the way she is in her late 80's, widowed and full timing with her mini Winnie towing her Saturn all over the country. Good luck with your procedure.

Good luck to you. The key is the physical therapy afterwords. Do everything they say. My Mother and all of my aunts and uncles have had hip replacements and some knee. The ones that did what they were told came out fine. One Aunt didn't and has had problems. I know about the pain - I have it also. My doctor looked at my X-ray and said I have 1/32 of an inch left of cartilage and can't have the replacement until it is bone on bone! I just love HMOs. We will have you in our prayers for a speedy recovery.
Happy trails....................

I had my left knee replaced in January 1994. At the time I was bowling on the Senior PBA Tour and when I bowled, my knee would hurt so bad (my sliding leg) that I'd pull up at the foul line. After the knee replacement and the rehab (I rehabed very fast--in 90 days I was back in the bowling alley). Anyway, after the rehab, I bowled my first 300 game and my first 800 series.

Go for it!

My dad had his right knee replaced and has done very well. He will eventually need to get the other one done as well. The first few days were tough but he has recovered completely and is glad he had it done. We will be praying for a quick recovery for you so you can back in that truck and Monty and on the road.

mpl897, you're not having them done at the same time, are you? I assume 6 wks apart? I have had four shoulder surgeries (3 open, 1 arth) in the last 19 months. Lots of pain meds, sleeping on couch for weeks at a time. Permanently disabled in my right shoulder. Successful open surgery on my left shoulder last month. Still have not doing "active" rehab yet.

Attitude is everything (book title, too). You will come out the other end of this better than you have felt and been in years.

Good luck, mpl897. This has to be scary -- especially the wait before it is done. We are all thinking about you.

As with any medical procedure there can be problems but for themost part all works out well. Both my wife and I have had total knee replacement. Mine was five years ago with great results. My wifes was just this week but I'm sure will be as good of results as mine. I have been pain free and do most everything I did before the knee problems. I have also had a total ankle and shoulder replacement (football been very good to me). The only down side is getting through some airport metal detectors. Good Luck and God be with you.
