I think the old saying applies to GM: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

quoteodge has a Japanese transmission now.
Yes, that is a option. A 68RFE made by Mopar or a Asian AS68RC which is a transmission that has been used in the 3500/4500/5500 cab and chassis trucks since 2007. It is now a option on the 3500 PU trucks.

So nothing new, just a option change.

Any info on why GM is not upping it's 6.6? Probably more aluminum to lighten but not sure why the 2015 remains 6.6?
Dennis, They are keeping the "6.6" but tuning it. My 2013 has 100 hp and 200 ft lbs more than my 2002 "6.6". So they really are upping it and keeping the displacement the same. As a note: If you open the hood and look at the motor of the 2013, it looks NOTHING like the 2002 6.6 L Duramax...

http://www.dieselhub.com/compare/tor...n-vs-68RE.html

these are pickup truck transmissions
look at the input rating on each
the 68RE has same Chrysler rating of "8" as the 48RE had; this is only 450 lbs/ft (on the 48RE)
Chrysler's ratings are on a scale of 1-10, weakest to strongest. That being said, the newer 68RE is still an 8, but the 1-10 scale is now 'tougher'
It has always been difficult to find Dodge's input rating on these transmissions. The number of transmission shops doing upgrades to the 48RE tells part of the story.
The Allison name being related to over the road trucks does not make the A1000 a transmission out of an 18-wheeler.

Motor Trend December issue says the 2015 Super Duty will have more power. It gets a larger turbo heavier torque converter new fuel pump, injectors and nicer interior for the King Ranch. More power bring it on. No truck ever had too much power.

My 2013 3500HD was brand new when I bought it the first of Aug this year - 184 miles on it. In 3 months it is now "two years old" with 6,124 miles on it. Don't know if I should feel sad or happy. I love the truck and I can't believe GM did that much more with the power train or the GVW specs of the "2015s".

I only have 40k on my 2004 Silverado. I can't justify a new vehicle when mine does the job. Sure is pretty though.

Know how you feel. I needed a truck this spring. Bought a '12 Ram in April. Now getting ready for the second oil change @ 9,000 miles and it is going to be 3 years old.

The HP race is in full swing. Wait till the '17's are out. 600hp and 1000 ft lbs?????

Remember when 9900GVWR was a 3500 SRW. Some states consider anything over that a commercial vehicle. I found out in 2000 that AARP/Hartford would not insure my F350 DRW cause the GVWR was over 10K

A 2001 PSD F350 had 250hp and 505tq with a 4 sp auto. Times change.

The big three won't stop. Since Dodge raised the bar, I don't think 1000lbs/ft torque is that far off. The thing that concerns me is that Dodge currently says their truck will tow 30,000 lbs., so how much further can they go before all states start requiring a CDL? And if politicians get started, they may decide to move the requirement down even further. Last thing we need is to get government regulation involved. Right now, I have a 2013 GMC 3500DRW with 765 lbs./ft torque. It will tow anything I need to tow. If I needed more, Freightliner and International already make a chassis MUCH heavier than a 3500 platform, and that's what I would buy. 350/3500 series trucks can only handle so much weight, they are not over the road tractors and I think bumping up horsepower and torque can have its limits.....

By April 1st, the 2018s will be out...

I'm feeling older by the minute...

Hey! If the 2016s come out next spring I will be out of my 36 month/36,000 mile warranty!!! Maybe that's GM's grand plan... to force everyone off warranty. Look at the $$$ they would save! Wonder if it's too late to trade my couple month (couple years???) old truck in for a Dodge???
