Am I Miss Reading This Right

Wanting to see the new heavy duty offerings of TV's I pulled up the Dodge website and see that the 2009 Models are the 1500, 2500, 3500, then the chassis cabs. For 2010 they only offer the 1500 and then a chassis cab. Now this is alarming. Went to GM and checked the website for GMC and Chevy trucks. After wading thru the sites I found that GMC is only offering a 1500 for 2010, Chevy has dropped all their trucks. Have not looked at Ford yet but this is depressing. You folks check this out, is this for real. OMG, get your 2009 model and hang on to it...

Checked out Ford, they offer 2500, 3500, 4500 in 2010. Never been a Ford driver but that might have to change.

Jim I hate to tell you but Cummins just started up a second shift to make the 6.7 in its cemp to meet demand for Dodge production. Don't know where you got the info, but I live 15 miles from the cmep and know people who work there. The start up also made headline news in the Columbus paper. There is also a writeup on rvnet.com forum about the new Dodge HD's.

Agree on the heavy duty, they are 3500, 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cabs, according to Dodge.Com there is not a pickup in the bunch, can't order the pickup bed either, that I have found. Also, a whole bunch of motorhomes are going to the Cummins 6.7

DON'T PANIC! The information is coming soon! The website just hasn't been updated.

When you go to www.dodge.com and only see the 1500 click on the down arrow next to "Select Vehicle" near the top of the page. The drop down states that the 2500 and 3500 vehicle (information) is coming soon.

I guess with the recent problems the Departments that update and maintain the websites were affected and are now trying to catch up. Give it some more time. This might be same with GMC/Chevy's problem too, but I didn't check.

Whew.... everyone, please remain calm.

On edit: Just checked GMC and Chevy sites and they don't list the 2500/3500 for 2010. I hope they are still around. As I was rooting around, I remembered I had read a story some time back when GM was getting split apart that one of the things being considered was that GM/Chevy would sell their truck division to raise cash or separate them off since the truck division was still profitable. I have heard nothing since and the websites indicate nothing. Saturn went bye-bye, Pontiac and Oldsmobile went away a year or two prior and Hummer was sold to some Chinese investors. Haven't heard anything more about their trucks.

"Off-subject": Some years ago, it was reported that the U.S. Military does not purchase their vehicles from foreign sources. This is why when Chrysler was sold to Mercedes Benz, GM was asked/forced to buy Hummer. I wonder what is gonna happen NOW that Hummer was recently sold to China (Taiwan? not sure.) Was the military version made by GM and therefore not affected?

Fords aren't so bad. In fact, I have one. I really don't like thinking the competition is going away. That would drive their already high prices through the roof. No doubt, the new Fords especially in 2011 and up will be phenomenal if you've read the recent write-ups.

Well Jim maybe I need to check with my home town sources on wheather the motorhome version is from the cmep or from Rocky Mount, NC. I know the agriculture version is from NC. This engine started as an industrial/agricultural engine. When Dodge started using them Cummins opened a closed plant outside of Columbus to produce them.

To paraphrase what Mark Twain said, News of their demise has been greatly exaggerated". GM is/has discontinued the medium duty truck line but the 2500/3500 live on.

Art, Hummer is not the manufacturer of the Humvee. Look here: http://www.amgeneral.com/vehicles/hmmwv/ IIRC, Hummer was a joint venture between GM and American General.

Reading local 'educational tabloids' for engineering and saw some articles where Ford and Chev/GMC (GM) were delaying their true 2010s until they get their respective engines out/certified to 2010 EPA standards. That said, one article stated that the big 3 makers didn't want to come out with 2010 models with one engine and then have a mid-year model change (ah-la Dodge with the 2007 5.9 then 2007.5 6.7 liters)... However, as mentioned, I've now seen both 2010 Ford SuperDuty(ies) and GMC/Chev 2500/3500s on the lots here with the older engines still. Guess they are either going to change engines / exhaust clean-up mid-year or perhaps wait until the 2011 models come out -- that is now the question I would guess.

Cummins is making the 6.7 hand over fist. Even started a second shift to keep up with demand. So much for a hold up.

There is a huge price spread between purchases in Canada and US. I bought my Chevy 3500 '07 in the US and there was a Hugh price difference.

Wow $75,000 for a GM 3500HD series. My last Chevy 3500HD, LTZ 4x4 only option we didn't have was the in-dash Nav system, drop down DVD player and the Moon Roof. I paid $43,600 cash out the door. With Nurf bars and in bed over the rail tool box. I'm sure others have paid less but I was pleased. As for Dodge, GM it will depend on what the Government lets them build. GBY...

Nor sure why there is such a difference but there is. I paid $30,000US and the closest I was able to get the same in my area was $56,000Cndn (this was at the time the dollar was at par). No issues with warranty transfer. Dodge does not allow for warranty transfer between borders.
