North Carolina the tag is what they call Waited Tag (in 1,000 lbs increments). This includes the weight of the truck and what you are pulling (GVWR).. Since the book rates my truck for 20,000 lbs, that is what I just got when we bought the Monty. The truck was registered as passenger vehicle before, and had 6,000 lbs limit on it... Now the registration said the truck weighted 5,930 lbs, so if I was sitting in it I was overweight..

So the Monty ways in at 12,100 + 3,730 Cargo Cap. + 5930 Truck + (170 X 4) People = 22,440.... so I guess they can still get you if you fill up the Monty to max weight.

The weight of your truck and what you are pulling is your Gross Combined Wight Rating.(GCWR) Your GVWR is what your vehicle can carry, my Chevy is tagged at 13,000 LBS in NC. If you are paying for GCWR, you are being over charged.

In WVa as long as you're towing a recreation vehicle you do not need a special tag. But if you tow a utility trailer for your 4 wheeler, the combined weight (truck, trailer and 4wheeler) can not exceed what your vehicle is licensed for, Example truck weighs 7,000 lbs, utilty tailer 1,000 lbs, 4wheeler 700lbs = 8700 lbs. Truck has to be licensed for at least 8,700 lbs.
