Mine's a 99 so I can't help you, but there's a lot of folks on this forum who tow, and they can probably get you pictures:

Don't have a photo but on my 08 3500 mine is located on the right side of the column, low -- if my seat is too far forward my shin just below my knee will touch it. With the seat in its proper position, I clear it easily -- have never hit it or had any problem reaching or viewing it in that location. Had it in the same place on my two previous Dodges as well.

On edit: Look at KTManiac's photo (below) -- where the two white dots are on the knee panel just below the steering wheel is where my Prodigy is mounted (thanks for posting pic there KT!). In any case, my 08 doesn't have the cubby hole where he mounted his so that is not an option..

I was at a Sam's club today and happened to see a GMC where the owner had put his controller on top of the dash (built a metal shelf TDC) and had guages on top and brake controller underneath. Wasn't that tall and didn't appear like it would block his/her vision any. Didn't see the owner -- just looked through the windows at it in passing but that is another idea if you are handy with tools and have access to some metal.

Here is where I mounted my Prodigy, but I think the P-3 might be taller than the Prodigy and you might not have the same cubby hole in your dash. >>>

Edit:
If you look at the 4 o'clock position of the steering wheel, you can see the two screw holes on the dash panel where a previous owner mounted a cheapo controller. In my opinion, it is way too hard to reach the brake lever on the controller when it is way down there, let alone the fact that a passenger would never be able to reach it in an emergency. That, and I didn't relish the possibility of banging up my knee on it either.

Just a comment:
Most controllers have paddles or buttons for manual braking. I have always placed controllers where the passenger can access them also, just in case!!! So, I like center of the cab. Not exactly what you were looking for, but just a word on safety.

I mounted mine under the dash to the right of the fuel throttle.

Yep, my prodigy is mounted to the right of the column probably using those same white holes shown in KT's post. This position works for me.

Thanks for all the comments, I put them all together, and decided to mount it. I put mine between the hood releese and the emergancy brake releese. Hopefully I dont ever have to have my copiolet assist me in an emergancy, I can still move it in the future if I ever feel the need.

Don, I also have the P3 and the buckets and console. My only concern with the placement of mine is my knee is pretty close. In an accident, that P3 might not be a good buddy to my knee. What I like about it, on the other hand, is the manual lever is very convenient in an emergency.

On edit, I missed your last post, Don. Your location should be fine, too. Usually in an emergency there's not likely time to communicate to the copilot and have them react and take action in time to circumvent whatever precipitated the panic. I think it's important for the driver to be able to find that lever by feel and I think your location provides that.
