How Big Is Big

It is a matter of perception. I ran across this old photo of when we had the Montana 3400RL and the TV was a Ford F-350. As I walked away and looked back I could not help but take a picture.

So, How Big Is Big? H. John and I measured 13' 5" to the top of the front AC. The big rigs runn 13' 6" typically.

Thought y'all would like this perspective.

our height on our 05 3475 Montana was 13 4 with a satellite dome on top. We watched which routes we took. I had a bridge/tunnel height book with me at all times. Our SOB motorhome is only 12 5 with a/cs and satellite dome. The CB antenna (mounted on the side) is about 6" taller which hits branches as we go down the side streets to our home.

Great picture. Makes you realize just how much we are pulling back there.

We clear the 14 foot barn door by about 7 inches. You really need to think in three dimensions when pulling the rig.

One of the things to consider when measuring is where are the trailer landing gears when measuring. I do have to say that we were parked and leveled, so the measurement should actually be lower when on the TV giving us a cushion of a couple inches. That cushion is for the two inches of re-topping the surface has after resurfacting of the highway. Ever noticed that little bump before going into, or coming out of an overpass?

Since when I hooked up ot the TV there was a drop of 2-3 inches I would expect my actual height when towing would be 13'2" or 13'3". I always looked for 13'6" written on the overpass and if it was lower, I typically would not use it. If it wasn't marked I would have pulled over and pulled out the computer to look up the height, or wait and see if an 18 wheeler went under.
