Kitchen ceiling lights don't work
One day the ceiling lights worked, and when we opened the screen door the kitchen ceiling lights turned on. The next day nothing worked. When we opened the screen door the lights do not turn on, plus when I try to turn them on with the wall switch the ceiling lights do not turn on. I checked the fuses and breakers and everything seems to be okay. Is it possible that the door switch that turns on the lights has failed. Anyone else have this problem?
Please advise.

Probably the door switch...try bypassing it.

Sounds like the door switch, had to have our replaced, seems to be a common problem.

It is a common problem. The switch is most likely the problem.

All the door switch does is override the wall switch. If the lights are not working from the wall switch I don't think it is the door
switch. If you take the door switch out and put the two wires together you will see that it's not the door switch. Test the fuse.
It may look good but that does not mean that it is. Could also be a wiring problem behind the wall switch?? Could also be a connection at the first light fixture in the loop?? Good Luck. Hope it's something simple.

Could also be your wall switch. A volt ohm meter makes the trouble shooting easier. Jim

Hi guys: Had the same problem with my 2013 Montana 3800 RE. The switch blew a fuse. The shop tried to fix the switch but after several trials the new switch blew the fuse. I was frustrated and just left the switch out.

I had to replace mine last year ran to the local rv Shop and dropped $25.00 I am sure they can be found for less Also there is a thread on here that shows how to move the switch over a little towards the door hinge. I did mine this month and it sure did help the door close easier. You might check your wall switch I have two that are not working properly have to push on the side after I turn them on to get the light to turn on.

The door switch and the wall switch form what us engineers call an "or" gate/circuit. 12vdc power from the fuse feeds both switches, turning on the wall switch or opening the door allows the 12vdc to go to the lights and turn them on. The most obvious fault would be a blown fuse, next is loose wire on either side of the fuse. John

Thank you for all the input on this problem. Before posting this issue I tested all the fuses with a tester and they all tested okay. I then tested the door switch and wall switch and they tested okay. I went back to the fuse box and pulled all the fuses and took a very close look at all of them and found one that seemed to have a hairline crack.
I replaced that fuse and now the lights work. I guess it pays to use the "eye ball" test and not to rely on test equipment.
