Dually tires and wheels
When ordering a Ford dually the standard tires and wheels are 17" LR E. An option is 20" LR E. Would the option increase the payload? I don't see how as both are LR E but wondering if there is any reason to upgrade.....

Ford Dually has plenty of payload. Moving up to a 20 inch may cause you complications re hitch, level towing.

I don't think any dually trucks come with optional 20" wheels. The 20" wheels are usually on SRW trucks.

I have the 17" wheels and don't see any advantage with the 20" and the tires would cost more on the 20" I believe from when I had a smaller truck with the 20" wheels.

Correct, they came on my F350 Lariat and are listed on the build site, but only for srw. Big wheel wells, tiny tires.

I believe you can get the 19.5 HDR ties with Alcoa rims, same as on the F-450.

I had them on my last two trucks, filled out the wheel wells much better and the tires lasted 75k miles. I am getting them in the next one, my wife hates the look of the 17s.

Rickson and Vision are 2 brands of wheels that are available in 19.5 that are available in 8 lug. Also, you can get 19.5 tires in the same overall diameter as your 17's so as to not affect your final drive ratio.

The drive ratio was my thought as I'm pulling a 16+K fifth wheel.

Can't tell you without knowing the two tire's designated sizes.
Dual rear wheel/tire spacing is a critical element and should be done by well trained installers when changing designated sizes.

An example of overall diameter is; 225/70x19.5 is only about a 1/2 inch taller than a factory size 245/75x17, which Ford has put on their dually truck for a few years now. I will be upgrading to the 19.5 on my Ram in the near future.

I would think if it was a factory upgrade there should be no problem.

Not a factory upgrade on the F-350. Stock on F-450

Ford did put the 17 inch tires/wheels on F450s for a couple of years (I believe 2013/2014) - they have a higher speed rating than the 19.5s. However, I hope no one is pulling at 85 mph or higher; 70 - 75 seems plenty high enough for me -- and that is driving solo on Interstate. Tires are speed rated at 75 mph by Continental.

Don't know about dually but my 2017 F350 SRW had a choice of 17 or 20. Overall height was the same as the 20 was a low profile. Dealer said there was really no difference except the cost of replacement and some thought the 20's look better. 17's fill the wheel well just fine. You'd have to read the load on the tire to see if payload is any different.

Just went on Ford Super Duty Build & Price site.
F-350 dually is 17" wheels ONLY!
F-450 is 19.5" tires ONLY!

There is a real difference for someone pulling a heavy long 5er. There is less sidewall flex so they are more stable.
