Redding to Eureka, California ??
Thinking of taking a little "break in trip" from BC
down I-5 to Redding, across to Eureka and back up the coast in March over spring Break.
Can anyone give me a hint of what the road is like from Redding to Eureka, and what about RV parks in these areas??
Thanks J & D

John and Dawn,
The road from Redding to Eureka, SR 299, is a good two lane road. In a few places they have 3 lane passing lanes. It is a lot of up and down as you work your way across the coastal range of mountains. Just take your time and enjoy the trip. There are many RV parks as well as some State and National parks in the area. We have stayed at several of these parks. North of Eureka is Mad River RV park. There is also a KOA in the general vicinity. We have not stayed at it but it looks nice. South of Eureka we have stayed at River Walk RV park. Very nice park that includes free local phone service. Or it was free when we were there. Further south is one of our favorite Redwood parks. The Burlington CG of the Humboldt State Redwood Park. The access roads are tight but the spaces are very nice and large. Of course no hookups in the state parks. You can see some pic of Burlington by clicking on the PictureTrail link listed in my signature. Enjoy and have a great trip.
Do you need park info for the Redding area too?

John & Dawn,
According to today's Redding paper there are some construction projects going on along SR 299 between Redding and Eureka, continuing through the summer. Here's a link to CA road conditions which provides further info. Consider joining us in Mt. Shasta for the MOC Rally in May. If I can be of further assistance, just ask.

On your way back, I recommend the Emerald Forest in Trinidad, Ca.

We stayed in site #20. It was the lushest parks we found on our Redwoods vacation last year.

Thanks for the info
We were thinking of staying in the Green Acres Rv park in Redding with some friends for a
couple of days then move over around Eureka for a couple of more then back up the coast.
Thanks again

We made the reverse trip on 299 a couple of years ago. It was good road and a very pretty and enjoyable drive. We didn't stay at Eureka although we did stay a couple of nights just north of Redding. This was all pre-construction.

There is a very nice park in Crescent City CA called Village Camper Inn - the owners are very nice and the park is away from busy streets so fairly quiet.
This is my hometown and this park has been there as long as I can remember and always owned by the same family.
I remember 299 as being a bit twisty in some areas.
