New Hitch Adjustment Question

Got a new truck, new Montana and a new hitch. When the dealer installed the new Pullrite Super Fifth 20K, per Pullrite customer service they recommended using the holes that were second from the top on the hitch base for the proper plate height. The way it turned out I have about 8 1/2" clearance between the top of the bed rails and the Montana, which I think is good. Took them both out for a shake down drive and found a very flat parking area and measured the front and rear distance from the ground to the trailer, this was about the same. Then I wondered if the Level Up system would give some more information while it was hooked up to the truck. The display indicated a front to back difference of a -0.4 degrees. So it sounds like I maybe a tad nose down, but it sure looks more level than our first Montana. Would you be satisfied with these measurements?

That would work for me. Some of the newer trucks are higher than the older ones especially the 4X4's.

Thanks, I thought that this was just about perfect. The reason I asked is that I am going to have the Bed Saver installed and they use the existing bolt holes and if I needed to adjust the hitch up or down this would be a good time to do it.

Measuring your frame to ground clearance at the front then the back when hooked up is the most accurate. Your level up is only as level as the place you decided to zero your level up to such as refrigerator, counter top, or floor in front of your entry door. Level up levels to a stored value ... it is not absolute level. That's why you press the buttons 10 times to store your settings to a given measurement of level.

With my 'new' truck and a Pullrite I am about 3 inches high in the front. But I have 7 or 8 inches of bed clearance. If I lower the hitch at all, I am down to only7 5 inches which won't cut it for me.
By the way, I haven't noticed any problem with a little nose high - and others have commented the same.

I did measure both the front and rear ground clearance and they were within 1/2 inch, I would accept the Level Up as pretty accurate in this situation.

Bob ... I understood your post. I was just pointing out for others that Level Up is not absolute to everything ... as with any leveling device, it has to be programmed to a predetermined level. Say a fiver's Level Up was programmed at the dealership to the fridge which usually isn't level to the frame especially if it's in a slide. Checking level while hooked to the truck for frame levelness would show up off. In your case, hooked to your truck is very close.

In my opinion, you can't beat tape measure.
