Dimplex fireplace/heater questions

I'm having problems with my fireplace/heater.
The heater only works part time, that is with thermostat on high, usually but not all the time it produces heat with fan, but frequently after a arbitrary amount of time it seems the fan quits.
After pulling it out the fan looks good and runs. Does the heating element glow? mine doesn't,is there overheat protection, a schematic?

the flicker module doesn't work, cosmetic I think

Many have found that their connections are loose and some have even had a minor fire issue at the connections. Others have had the air intakes full of lint or cat fur. I'd check your air intakes and if that isn't the issue it really sounds like loose connections.

Yep like Dick said cat hair dust etc.. my fan has stopped working twice pulled it out and took off the top and bottom panels and cleaned and vacuumed all connections and switches tightened them and good to go till next time

I think i'll pull it out and run it where I can see all and clean it out as well

Agree with all the above. I pulled mine out a week ago, and it was pretty dirty. Good cleaning put it back in good running shape.

On the advice of a member we pulled the fireplace out as soon as we got the unit home after purchase. There was a lot of construction debris back there. We now pull it about this time every year.

I had the same problem. Found the connection were not good and would heat up and not work. Replace the cheap connectors and not had a problem at all last year.

well tested last night with heat set to high and the fan quit sometime in the night.

the heating elements seemed to be putting out heat but no fan

had cleaned fan, tightened connections

will call mfg later

the part of the furnace that really seems to get dirty and clogged and screws things up was Not the fan but behind the temp control knob on the right you will see a little vent next to it (must be the sensor) and that is where I concentrate my cleaning and that does the trick for me but I do clean everything else too

I think I got is puzzled out
With new bigger flat screen sitting right over fireplace, I put a extension on the mantle to prevent the heater heat from affecting tv. evidently this causes the air flow to overheat the heater overheat and shut down fan.

RESETTING THE TEMPERATURE CUTOFF
This unit is equipped with a thermostat which controls the temperature of the room. It does this by turning the heater on and off. The heater is protected with a safety device to prevent overheating. Should the heater overheat, an automatic cut out will turn the heater off and it will not come back on without being reset. It can be reset by switching the ON/OFF SWITCH to OFF and waiting 5 minutes before switching the unit back on

Mine had a similar problem. The fan worked but the heating element would fail after a few minutes. There is an over-temp protection device on the heating element. Had to replace the element--over a hundred dollars.

This all brings up the point that while we and most with a fireplace really like it, it is a royal pain to keep working (especially if you've got pets!).

I've never pulled mine out to clean & check and it still works well. Does anyone have pics/step by step so I don't have to reinvent the wheel? TIA.

there are 4 screws 2 on ea side of the top corners and 2 on ea side of the bottom corners(flip down the control panel) and then the fireplace just slides out,unplug it and turn it upside down and remove all the little screws holding the bottom panel on and there you have it Start cleaning and Vacuuming and also if you are at it turn it right side up and take the top panel off Repeat,it is just ALOT of little screws holding the panels on just make sure you remember how the panels interlock with ea other pretty easy job just time cosuming

While it's out, check the bottom panel. If it has one row of vents, this could be your problem. Dimplex sent me another panel with several rows of vents in it and it solved my problem. The old panel wasn't allowing enough air flow.
