BLACK WATER FUMES

When we flush our toilet the smell comes through the AC. Anyone know what causes this and how to fix it? We dump the tank a couple of times a week and put recommended deoderizer in it. PLEASE HELP ASAP. Thank you.

Sorry to hear of that problem. In all my years of full timing, the only thing I can think of is that the smell is being vented by the black water vent near the AC and the AC is picking it up. I've never hear of this problem.

We use a product called Snow Fresh in our holding tank and this seems to keep any odors down. The only time we seem to generate any odor in the rig is when dumping and I leave the toilet valve open too long while cleaning the toilet out after dumping has finished.

A suggestion for you would be try this: When the AC is on, turn on the exhaust fan it the toilet room and see if that doesn't keep the odor down. That still doesn't solve the problem as to how the odor gets there anyway.

It's got to be a venting issue of some sort.

Has to be tied to venting. I am surprized you are dumping your black tank a couple of times a week. That seems like a lot. Best to not dump until the black tank is totally full. We sit for five months in Florida (two of us), and we only have to dump once every couple of weeks. If you are dumping beforeletting the tank fill, you may be building up deposits at the bottom of the tank contributing to the problem.

Close your gray water valve or make sure your outside hose has a dip in it to create a trap to keep the sewer gas out. Most times sewer smell in your trailer is caused by keeping the gray water valve open because they are using air vents in the trailer and not routing them through the roof.
If you don't keep your gray water open then disregard above narrative.

Not sure the answer is tied to the gray tanks. We stay in Florida for five months in the winter, in a site we keep year round, and all of our neigbors, like us, keep gray tanks open continously for the entire season. Neither us or anyone else we know of has experienced any negatives doing that. In fact, since we always opt for sewer service in our travels, I dont think we have even closed those valves in a couple of years. Probably need to see if they still open and close.

Just returned from a 4 day stay with fullhookups. The were 5 people getting showers so I left the gray open. After the first day my daughter says it really smells in the bathroom, so I check it out. Traced the source to the vanity. Opened the 2 doors and it almost knocked me out. There is a vent pipe in there with a valve on the top that maybe is malfunctioning, because when I closed the gray valve the smell went away for the rest of the trip. I do have a hose holder so there was no residual water in the outside hose to create a trap to stop the gas from traveling into the trailer..

Wow closed the gray water and NO SMELL!!! We had always kept the gray water closed with no problem UNTIL we put an AC in the front or our RV. Can't thank you enough. It's already 98* here is Texas and will no doubt get hotter. Angela Joe
