living room slide

sometimes here lately when bringing in the slides, when the living dining slide on my 2980 starts in, about half way in it will stop. If I let off the button then press it again, it will come in ok. the other two slides comes in ok. they all go out as they should. any suggestions what could be causing this?

Don't know about your slide problem, but I have to say you have a pretty truck. Our is just like your except that where you have a lighter two tone paint color just above the running board - ours is black. Sorry about your slides, but at least you look good.

thanks Tammy, Ford had the truck customized when it was new. The bottom color is a pearl. The slides are working just seemed odd with the big slide sometimes stopping midway. "Love My Truck!!

I will stay on subject for you. I had the same problem on my 2955RL. There are is a circuit breaker for the hydraulic slide motor. What is happening to you is that the circuit breaker "pops", you then release it and it resets and continues. The hydraulic motor is drawing more amps than the breake can handle.

Dale told us a while back that each time the breaker "pops" it gets weaker and weaker. You need to have the breaker replaced. I was advise to have to 50 amp in parallel installed. Never had the problem again.

Do a search on the board and you will find references to the fix.

Bob, so sorry I offended you by giving Tom a compliment on his truck. I'll be sure to let my husband do all the posting from now on so as not to "get off subject."

I have the same problem on my 3400RL. I'm to lazy to fix it, but I am retired and have a lot of time on my hand. So, I bring in, or put out three slides, then I stop and pause for 15 seconds, then start the big one out and about half way, stop and count to 10. Have not had a stoppage that was not induced by me since doing that and now I don't have the fear of the breakers getting weak. One day I'll parallel the breaker or put a bigger one in.

Edited: The above fix was posted in another thread. Can't remember which one.

This has been covered numerous times. If you search on "circuit breaker" three of the topics that come back are about the solution.

Tammy, there is another thread on staying on topic and I suspect that's where the comment came from. Please don't go away.

Tom, Bob's analysis of the circuit breaker is on target from what I've seen as the most frequent cause of this problem. But may I offer some additional comment. The circuit breaker pops when the amperage draw exceeds its rating, just like a regular breaker except this one cools down and resets itself. So the question becomes, is the circuit breaker insufficient for the draw or is the draw somehow elevated above what is normal and therefore it pops the breaker?

Back in our 2003 models there was a problem with the breakers installed being too small in rating. Ours was replaced under warranty with the correct size. This might also be your problem, although not necessarily.

The other side of this coin has to do with whether there is more current draw than there should be, thus popping the breaker. That can happen when the slide rails need to be lubed. It requires more effort, thus more amperage, to move the slides. I've found a simple lubrication of the slide rail teeth and the gearpack you can see just inside the opening can solve this problem. That assumes the breaker is the correct size, though.

Also, if your slides get a bit jumpy when moving, that's another sign they need lubrication.

Thanks Steve for the info. The slide doesnt bump or make sounds. I keep the teeth and gears lube with a dry spray lube that I get at Tractor supply. I'll check the amperage as you suggest. This has just started recently. And it doesnt do it every time and if it does its only with the large living/dining slide. Thanks for everyones help and suggestions.

Sounds like you're on top of it. It may then just be the CB has worn out.

Would a low battery cause this? Lower voltage, higher amperage? Does it do the same when the power cord is connected to the truck and the truck's engine is running? Just wondering.
