Break way switch and locked up brakes
...not on my unit - it was the guy next door.
He had a new Rockwood bumper tow and nice Ram dually. He was hitched and ready to go. He pulled out a few minutes before me and I could see his wheels were locked up and making horrible noise. I flagged him down figuring it was the break-away pin not being inserted correctly, and it was completely out and hanging there. I clicked it back in for him - but the brakes would not release.
We were up against check-out time and I had to leave, plus I saw another guy coming over to help out - but I had no idea what to do to get the brakes to release. I had never been in that situation.
What is the answer?

Might of burnt up the wiring coming from the break away switch near the junction box if the brakes had been on for a long time.

locked up brakes
He had only pulled forward about 150' at a walking pace and I had to do an end run around the motorhome on the other side of me to catch him...so maybe he traveled 150' at a "walking pace" and then he pulled into an empty space which was another 150'. He never moved faster than I could walk...but both rear tires were locked and would drag for a few feet then they torturously rotated. I had never seen it happen before.
But now that you mention it - I was not there when he arrived so I have no idea if he drove from Louisiana to Houston with the brakes locked like that. I will say that the switch was located in a horrible place. I could not find it at first. I had to crawl under the tongue on my back to find it tucked away out of view under the propane tanks, an plug in the key.

Didn't know tag along had break away switch. The two I've had didn't. Guess they do now.
He may have pulled break away switch when he pulled in and brakes were on the whole time he was parked. If that is the case may have melted magnets.

Our's popped out after the wire got caught on the hitch because we were at a bad angle. When the tires locked up, I stopped, got out and pushed the connector back in after I realized what happened. Got back in the truck and took off with no issues.

If I'm not mistaken, ALL trailers with brakes must have a break away switch.

I'm sure you are correct but trailers have break away safety chains that shouldn't allow the trailer to pull break away.
