allergy shots
I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion how to get my allergy shots while traveling? I am not sure if my doctor will let me take my serum with me and if he does where will I get my injections? thanks

I've "graduated" to being able to give myself the shots and just take the serum with me in the fridge. My cousin's wife has a different doctor who will not allow her to do that. But I'm not sure why.
Ask your doctor. If he will let you have the serum, then bonus! Maybe he will allow you take it if you get the shots or give yourself the shots in a clinic or doctor's office.

Walgreens have been giving more and more types of shots, you might check and see if they do that.

Joanie and Dave, The problem is one of liability. No other facility or Dr.'s office can ABSOLUTELY determine what is in your vial. I can see your Dr. showing you how to inject yourself while on the road, but not taking the serum into a strange office and asking them to inject you. Having spent 26 years as a medic, we never allowed this to happen. Even in the military, the immun techs had to mail your serum to your new base, they would not let youi take it with you for fear it may get changed. When I worked for a Dr in Alaska, we would phone a dr in the lower 48 and make arrangements to have patients get IV's while they were away from us. Keep in mind, these were IV's and NOT allergy injections. We did allow patients to take B12 and a few other injectables with them AFTER showing us they could inject themselves in our office. Trying to get your Dr. to let you take them with you would be the best way to do it, even then, they are risking liability in case something should happen. I am presently, and, constantly, under 3 Drs care and could not travel this summer and probably not for the next year or so. The bottom line is: It is what it is......Hope you can find a way to overcome this "Bump in the Road"..

Thanks for the answers. I'm not sure if he will let me take the serum with me, but Dave is an EMT and can be shown how to give me the injections if they will allow him to do so. The biggest problem is that I have asthma. They require me to stay longer after the shots to make sure I don't have a reaction than someone with just allergies. But, once again, with Dave being an EMT that might not be a problem either. I guess just asking would be the way to go now. thanks again

Usually each dose is slightly stronger than the previous injection. This can trigger an allergic reaction which could cause an anaphylactic shock. That is why you have to stay for 15 minutes in the office to make sure treatment is close if needed. Walgreens just give vacinations ie flu, shingles etc.
